I've been on the phone to actioncameras about the drift s - I do like the sound it it ;)

Watch this space...............I have a plan where some of you may get one ;)

I still cannot justify investing $200 more for a camera that brings nothing new.
It's a Drift ghost HD with 3 tweaks, framerate, night vision, and wifi? Everything made in software.
It may even be a Ghost HD with exactly the same hardware but with tweaked firmware.

From the ghost website: "sleek and stylish"
Wow, now they're apple-izing their product. I don't give a dime if it's sleek or stylish, I'm buying a camera, not a fashion accessory. I prefer RUGGED and EVERYTHING-PROOF, shock, water, dust, ice...

"60 frames a second at 1080p. Best Video Quality I've Seen "
You sir, need to qualify and watch more videos to even know what you're talking about.

"Captures awesome video, even at night out in the skate park." - Kurt Yaegar, Professional BMX Rider
You're a professional BMX rider, not a video specialist, why your review should matter? What is "awesome video"?

"12 MP CMOS"
Why use a 4+ megapixel sensor on a VIDEO CAMERA? The pictures from those cameras look like noisy crap anyways so why bother?

Huh, I don't understand such product releases. And I would never buy it if I don't know what makes it tick.

... so.... not a fan then ... ??

is that for all the new lines of the various brands ? ... the 'popular' camera seems to be spruiking much the same functionality?!

or is it the price points thats doing it?

just wondering!? :) 8-)

It doesn't make sense. The guts of the latest cameras could do everything that the camera does now... on the 2 previous generations with absolutely no problem. They aren't even getting new hardware inside. The manufacturers are just launching a camera, they let the camera sell then wait patiently and flip the virtual switch to enable a few more features then Bam!, new, improved model, $100, $200 more than the latest.
And they're still the toys we're already playing with.
Too bad the drift is less popular than gopros so they get little attention from the right hackers. Also, the Zoran model is kinda hard to hack since Zoran is used to encrypt the firmwares. The Ghost HD should be easier to hack because it's the same camera as a gopro 3 hardware wise and gopro hacking is getting momentum.

Yeah ok... I see that as a good point ... Even a paid firmware upgrade would be cool though... Say $10? .. To gain a feature you want... Personally I would love to have lowlight back on the ghost ... And theoretically the 60fps in 1080 ....

I notice with the new S stats though .. The max FOV is reduced to 160 deg ... Don't think it makes that much of a diff from 170 deg though?? ..

Of course paid firmware upgrades would still have some people screaming for justice ... But hacking presents a attractive option I guess for firmware options anyway

I picked up the drift ghost -s for my first cam and honestly I think its pretty awesome some of the guys I work with have gopros not sure which ones they have but I personally think i video recording looks much better although it was pretty pricey

The ghost-s has a Sony lens. The Ghost and HD had a no-name lens. So there is definitely a hardware upgrade.

Sony doesn't manufacture lenses but image sensors. Most other action cameras use Sony image sensors. There aren't many companies out there manufacturing those so they have to choose what Ambarella tested or pick a cheaper sensor and redesign the camera, something that does not happen because of the developing time needed. Also most manufacturers don't go around claiming their cameras use certain sensor brand. The ghost has the same brand sensor and the 1080 and 720, I really don't know. Haven't checked yet.

not saying i know for sure but several reviews and overviews state the sensors are different and drifts website just says CMOS for ghost and Sony CMOS for Ghost-s! no whether thats a marketing ploy to make the S sound better when they both have Sony Sensors is anyones guess!
