So, Does anyone know of any specialized music players for using on a motorbike, so easy use with gloves, easy plugin to helmet etc. so rather than having a fiddly ipod or mp3 player with tiny buttons impossible to press with gloves on a custom made music player.

Anyone know of any such device?

If not I'll just make one but if there is one available already I'll buy that :P

if there anything like biker gps units they will be massively overcharged

Haha yeah, despite the fact they are cheap to make :| I am starting to see a gap in the market... I might have to design this and pitch it to my boss!

i have some good software i'll have a look

I've had good results with my ipod shuffle. I know you want something bike-specific, but hear me out. The shuffles controls are pretty much perfect for gloved fingers. Turning it off/on takes a little figuring out, but navigating the music is easy as hell. It didn't take too long before I was able to do it all by feel. Now I put it in my pocket and operate it just by pushing on it from outside the pocket, if that makes sense. Best part, they're cheap (comparatively.) Mine only cost $50 a few years ago, and I bet you can get something off eBay for even less.

I use an iPod Touch, streamed via bluetooth intercom (Sena SMH-10). Works great! With the Apple stuff, you can set up "playlists" as long as you want, so you don't need to worry about touching the player.

I can't remember the name, but there are remotes you can buy for the ipods and stuff. Ashf00t used it, and I bought one too...but I can't remember it for the life of me. If I come across it again, I'll let you know. But it's just something you attach to the bottom of your ipod, and there is a wireless remote you can mount to your handlebars or something. But buttons, easy to use.

The Sena SMH-10 claims to have "Bluetooth music playback control by AVRCP: Play, pause, track forward and track back" but I've not tried it with mine as I prefer to do without the distraction.

Try humming to yourself. That way you can hear and react to the lunatics before they kill you from behind.

When you're on your bike you need all your wits about you, unfortunately it's you VS the world. My thought is why would I deprive myself of one of my senses.

(This is just my opinion and what I do. You do whatever you want. No judgment here)

Same here. I have a few compiled playlists that are anywhere from 2-8 hours long, I just select one and forget about it. :)

I thought the same, till i tried it myself. It was nice on highway (although i gotta admit i got carried away when the music was good enough  ..),
but for regular in-town/city use its not something id recommend.. it can get dangerous if you dont hear a car horn or something and i dont wanna find myself in that situation.

I always find that listening to music makes me ride more quickly.
I think it's because it gives you a more detached feeling of your reality, so you aren't as careful as when your senses are all working as they should.

I'm not condemning it, but like you say, it's probably not a good idea in town, but on longer motorway jaunts, it can relieve alot of boredom.

i use a ipod shuffle have it cliped to the cord on my hoodie so can reach the buttons but could allways go retro as it ticks your boxes with easy to use and big buttons

I've been wanting to try it, but I know music can distract me. For instance, I work in a call center and they recently allowed us to have MP3 players. Today I sat for about 5 or 10 minutes with my headset on my shoulders not realizing my phone was taking calls. I may have missed a couple...
