Motorcycle etiquette & waving

I can understand that waving can possibly be perceived as dangerous at times - say, going round a roundabout - I wouldn't fancy try to do that one-handed but yes, I'm with you on the acknowledging front. Those bikers who don't nod/wave/leg out etc are just rude or commuter motorcycle owners who use a bike as a means to an end and nothing more.

I say LEG as in Europe this is how they acknowledge each other (allegedly). Odd but then that's the Europeans for ya

Yeah, I agree with you there. It's not always safe to wave all of the time, but between putting a few fingers up off of the grip or at least a little nod won't do any harm.

Leg out? Crazy Europeans haha

no we here wave :D I sometimes wave on roundabouts but often an over exagerated nod will do. We only "Leg" if we're overtaking other bikes

Well that's good to hear! haha

Is that what you call getting a "leg up" on other bikers? :D Sorry...really bad joke

lmao, bad but funny

SIdeways nod is the most common round my way, but I have noticed the leg out has started to pop back into fashion as a greeting. Always used a leg out as a thank you as you pass someone or erm cut them up

I nod to anything on two wheels, or lift my left hand slightly to wave as I pass them.

Is it just me that seems to be getting loads of little kids waving to them this year? :?

The only people I don't wave to are those on 3 wheelers. (whatever they are called)

I've been nodding/waving at pretty much everything but yeah, I wouldn't if I saw them just in shorts and a tee-shirt.

As an aside - I overtook a car on the dual carriageway today who had just finished overtaking another vehicle - he'd moved into the left hand lane but left his right indicator on. I proceeded to overtake, then flash my hand at him twice as I did so - indicator stayed on. I then pulled into his lane and pointed downwards, followed by my indicators going left then right three times - still he was clueless…. I gave up after that.

Carkeh likes this. (Y)

I nod to all bikers and I'd say around 90% of them nod back.

It is a little annoying when they don't though.

I nod at everyone apart from chavvy scooter riders i'll wave at carkeh though :P and i dont wave at cruisers cause they never wave back because they think they are better than everyone else need more people like angstdrm

All the more reason to do it! Put the ball back in their court and make them look like the ignorant fools they are! ;)

Scooter riders and learners all get a nod from me because that tiny action could make their whole day, and it might give them that bit more incentive to get a bigger bike so they can join in properly some day! :)

Hell, even POLICE bikers get teh nod from me! And maybe if they pull me over some day they'll remember it...

i go to every meetup i know of even tho im only on a 125. I even hang out wid harleys, i nod at every1 and if there local i get one back lol
