Morrisons...

Urban myth.

Most 'large supermarket' fuel is perfectly fine for the large majority of regular road bikes out there.

Wasn't there something a few years back with Tesco selling dodgy fuel?
I don't live anywhere near a Morrisons :)
My local sainsburys doesn't sell super unleaded, so I go to an esso garage, which is as cheap as supermarket petrol and the girls who work there are nice :p

Remind me when I'm on the road to come down south ;)

There's no reason to put 'super-unleaded' in your bike, normal unleaded does the excat same job.

Most bikes now come with a 'stock' compression ratio unless its suped up, which most of the bikes on this forum aren't. You might aswell save your money. Regular unleaded from a dedicated Petrol Station, comes with extra additives that can help lubricate when igniting, supermarket fuel doesn't.

+ You will get a few extra mile out of dedicated fuel stations than supermarkets.

£15 - 127m on Shell unleaded
£15 - 118m on Tesco unleaded
This is the reading on my Zumo.

Rode to the same place on 2 different Fridays, roughly the same amount of liters & got different mileage.

I'd disagree. OK, so it might not make 20hp more but it IS cleaner and better fuel, and much better to run an engine on. An engine will run smoother on it, and in my tried and tested experience I get better mileage (more than enough to offset the extra cost).

I always use super in the bike, and will run a tank through the car before an MOT to help with the emissions test, too. ;)

That said, and to get back on track with where this thread started, I did a test using supermarket (Tesco) super unleaded for a few weeks and found my bike running rough with flatspots etc - switching back to a quality super brand made an instant change. Here's the full test, if anyone wants to see my findings: http://nastyevilninja.wordpress.com/2010/06/03/super-supermarket-fuel-and-why-not-to-be-a-skinflint/

Some say it's a placebo effect, but I think those people are deaf lepers, because if you can't hear and feel the difference there's something wrong! :P

When I rode with supermarket fuel I was getting less mpg & tick over was under 1k,

3rd 4th & 5th felt alot more lumpy than usual (it being a V-twin), Once switched back to Shell Unleaded, them gears felt alot more flush compared to beforehand. also tick over was improved to 1.25k & sat nicely.

on Supermarket fuel if I was roll on the throttle it would 'jerk' in the mid range compared to Shell's where it was a flush swing of the needle.

Persoanly preferances really, I don't think S-Unleaded is worth the extra, & Supermarket fuel makes the bike perform worse so I'd say stick to what works.

I'd say want more bang for your buck go with a dedicated petrol station.

This may be 1 for the dyno on the F-A mix & what the readings come back as, but from my experiance I'd just use a dedicated fuel station 9/10 times it's a Shell.
