More Than One Mic Drift.

Anyone set their camera up to use more than one mic at the same time?

Using a splitter...

As I have two mics one is great for atmospherics but rubbish for voice and the other great for voice but rubbish for atmospherics.
Just wondered if any one has tried using two at once?

I can confirm the drift mic is mono.

You need a stereo to dual-mono adapter so you can separate out the channels rather than a simple splitter.

Surly the channels will be combined on the drift as at that point they will be back to mono. Im gonna try it as an experiment just want to get the right adapter first tho!

So a mono male with two female inputs? That is the idea.

No that's the wrong adapter.

The drift records in stereo but the official drift mic is mono.

It's important to have each mic going to a separate channel (hence stereo to dual-mono) so that you can separate out the audio sources, and a loud sound in one source doesn't impact the other.

You want it so that mono mic 1 goes to the left stereo channel and mono mic 2 goes to the right stereo channel. Then in editing you can adjust the balance of each mic separately and even remove one completely if the situation requires it.

Speak to @CaptainCranky - he's done it before, think he had a video out about this time last year on it as he has one for voice and one nearer the back for "ambience". Wouldn't perchance be something you're up to, add a little Zorst in to the mix? Would it?! ;)

Ah, so the Drift input IS stereo?!?!?!

Well then yes, what SwissMotard said...

Thunderous, the picture in your first post is correct then.
2 mono inputs (female) to stereo output (male)

Yeah the mic is mono but the camera accepts stereo. I don't know if this is for all models though.

Now I think about it, I'm 99% certain it's a mono camera after a conversation with Drift over my whine on my HD Ghost.

This is a cool idea. I hadn't considered it. When I wired my GoPro adapter I kept it stereo, even though my mic is dual mono. I might look into something similar. Thanks for sharing!

Any issues with volume drop or noise due to auto gain control?
