I'm seriously starting to loose my rag with this cam now.

After numerous issues getting the settings on this cam sorted, then the issues with the mic - which are ongoing due to the next point, I'm now getting issues with the cam recording now.

I posted an issue about recordings failing with SD card Class speeds and understand that now, I'm now getting the following issue: When I do any recording now, I get a few minutes worth of recording and the screen just scrambles. Basically, after about 2-3 mins the screen looks like this:

The only way I can reset the cam after this is to take the battery out or disconnect the power source. The pics above are from 3 attempts. The unit will not shut off in the usual way without removing the power source.

I've dropped Drift an email to see whether they have encountered this. I've tried with a couple of different cards, both Class 4 admittedly but I get the same result, even when as you guys suggested I set the cam at 720 res on 25fps.

Personally it looks to me like a dodgy unit. What do you guys think?

I Had the same problem in regards to the on and off issue. Have you tried turning it on or off without a memory card? When I had a class 6 samsung in the camera it didnt work properly so i changed it for a sandisk 8gb class 6 and it worked fine. I think it has problems with different makes of card. I hope this helps.

Yes, I too have problems with one of my cards where the unit will not switch on if left for more than 15 mins if the card is left in. That is a class 10 PNY 32gb. It does switch on however if i plug-in external power source. Usually i remove and replace the card and that lets it switch on.

Also check Drifts website for firmare updates im not sure if one of them fixes it but its worth a shot. If you dont know how to do all that this video by darkflight really does a good explanation on how to do firmware updates

Good info

Unfortunately the firmware update does not resolve the card conflict issues. I tried. It's just a case of remembering to remove the card

Well i tried :( haha but if enough people with driftHD complain about it they will create a firmware. I didnt know only because i have the Drift 170 Stealth and i dont mess with the updates because my camera worked fine right out of the box

I updated the firmware to the latest version. This originally sorted an issue with edge of screen wobbling.

I understand that sd card issues are quite common in cameras generally and not specific to Drift. I'm guessing that some will work with no problems at all as one of mine does.

Problem sorted.

I spoke to Drift today and they said it wasn't something they had encountered but def sounded like a hardware issue and to send it back.

I asked them what cards they recommend and they said Kingston and another make, I think it mighta been Sandisc. They're gonna send me a new unit, a couple if 32Gb cards and an external power pack so we'll see what happens.

You guys across the pond sure seem to be getting a large number of bad units. I haven't heard of too many over here needing to be sent back like that. Atleast they're going to make good on it, and damn, a couple bigass memory cards for free? Must be nice. :P

The external power pack is very handy - you don't have to worry about charging batteries - well apart from the big en

So did this problem get fixed? I'm ready to toss mine on the barbecue grill and film the resulting inferno with a new GoPro HD 2.

Yes mate - I sent it back last Weds and they are sending me not only a new one but an external power pack but 2x 32G cards. Can't argue at that really.

Am waiting for it to arrive

I sent them an email and I'm waiting to hear back. If the problem isn't resolved this is exactly what I plan to do. I'm no Mordeth13 but I do have over 4000 subs and nearly a million and a half views. My videos seem to rank pretty well so I'm sure a video of me barbecuing a Drift being shot by their main competitor, a GoPro, will definitely put a dent in their sales.

I'm almost cringing reading this. Ring them - speak to them. They are slack in responding by email. DOn't set fire to it though ffs.
