Mods That Save The Day

Hello Everybody!!

I've been tossing a topic around lately about modifications that truly save the day or for short #modsthatsavetheday (in fact I think that's longer?).

The best mod I ever did to my bike was changing the LED bulbs in my analog speedo. Factory made these awful bulbs that after sunset you can just make out your speed. These new bulbs that have just come in the mail make the dash literally LIGHT UP like Christmas eve house lights.

I'd love to know the mods you have done that make commuting easier, off-roading less painful or even make your day to day life just a bit easier on the bike!!

My bikes pretty bang on. But as with any bike, I believe in swapping out the stock pipe. Im a big advocate for loud pipes save lives. So thats all I have done.

I've kinda left nothing alone.

I've forgotten what the stock bike was like now.

I have left everything about my bike pertaining to performance stock, this includes everything on the engine, pipe and brakes as well as lights and dash. I can't mod much anyway or it'll be illegal, and even if it was legal, I wouldn't to avoid voiding the warranty on bikes I bought new, and they cost money for performance I don't need anyway.

But on the other hand, I've been more than happy to swap out all my plastics and grips for cheap Indonesian made ones so that the originals don't get damaged. Crashed twice before, at least the plastics that got cracked weren't the originals.

Thats a smart idea! I hear many ducati riders will swap them for after market fairings so the original fairings are kept on perfect condition.

..I should think about this!!

I have an aftermarket HID headlight and some spotlights which makes it possible for me to see at night, as well as a second LED tail light which also makes it possible for people to see me at night. The stock lights were very sub-par. I also plan on getting stainless steel braided brake lines because the brakes on my bike are not great. All the other mods have very little to do with safety

I'm surprised that not one person has said 'suspension'!!!

Every 'modification' is totally and utterly worthless until you at least have the stock suspension set up to you and your riding needs!

I have been meaning to set up my suspension!!

Would you just see your local mechanic dandoolittle?

I have had my suspension done but not because I ride on the street, but because of the track. It just happens to double as a street bike. I have the Elka Stage 3 in the rear serviced and spring to my weight along with the front being sprung and serviced for my weight. I agree is your riding style is aggressive that should be one of the first things you do.

Other mods include, full race exhaust, HID lights, integrated tail light, watson indicators, -1/+2 520 conversion, PitBull Steering damper, keyless gas cap, manual CCT, tank grips, Attack Rearsets, engine covers and lots of zip ties. Plenty of dirt and scratches and a few motovlogger decals.

the best cheap and noticeable mod that i have done was putting a performance ignition coil in my bike . took 5 mins to fit only cost £12 and its works like a dream

Hmm kind of agree but stock suspension is rarely spot on at all. My blade was set up for a stone rider on the rear and 12 stone on the front...Thats off the shelf, brand new bike

The GSXR was the same really.

I've got to say that standard maintenance is my favorite mod. I know it sounds cliche, but I believe it.

One of the first times I took the bike out it had a terrible wobble on decel. Turns out the rear tire was 10 psi low. I'd set pressures the last time I rode but it had leaked down.

Also, the bike was shifting weird once and I found that a few bolts in both rearsets had gotten loose.

Now I check the standard items (brakes, tires, clutch, throttle, chain, etc) every week. I also "nut and bolt" the bike monthly. This all ensures a reliable bike and enjoyable ride, every time.

Not quite sure what you mean "mods that saves the day".. Do you mean like saved your life?

Or something like I'm glad I added turbo to my bike so I managed to avoid coming to work late even though I woke up hella late and my sexy lady boss was super impressed and gave me a foxy wink.

..Next on things that didn't happen.... :p

The best thing i ever did on my DRZ400 is swap the 36mm cv carb to a 39mm fcr carb makes a world of a difference in power and throttle response.

First thing I did(only thing so far) was change out my levers to eBay shorty ones. They are so much easier to brake/shift with one/two fingers. It just fits right. Mine were $30 from China and are really good quality. I can't imagine what the $250 ones are like? Never seen them but can they be that much better?
