Sup guys and gals,

I'm from Australia and I own a Go Pro Hero 3 and was wondering what microphone is the best to use for the camera to motovlog or in general pick up better sounds from my bike?

The jack is a 3.5mm for your information.

I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on it but just enough so I get nice sound, more so I'm after brands and models as I don't know where to start looking for microphones.

Thank you :)

I suggest grabbing something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-3-5mm-Ha ... 749&sr=1-3

You can grab microphones like this at a 99p store like I did, their extremely simple and do the job. The problem is your going to be tucking it away in the helmet and you've got air circulating around on top of the vibrations so no matter what you choose it's going to be distorted to some degree.

Not forgetting the Hero 3 isn't designed to be a studio quality audio recorder, in a way it's like youtube. It doesn't matter how high the quality is on your video since it will be recoded and compressed which sacrifices the quality.

Hey, I'm gloverintl, from Tennessee.
I had the same question, when I got my Hero2. I got my recommendation from RC62.
The Sony ECM CS10. It's not really a cheap one, but it worked great for me, right out of the box.
I'm thinking about getting another, so I can keep one in my helmet.

I thought the hero 3 had a MicroUSB port for audio... hence why you need this: http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/3-5mm-mic-adapter

Is this for Black Ed. versions only or something?

Not to be rude but can you read? did I ask for that? I asked for a microphone.

I know that the GPH3 requires an adapter, BUT ITS ONLY AN ADAPTER! I STILL NEED A MICROPHONE.

I hope the words in caps help you understand because you seem to be going off track from what I asked. WHICH WAS A MICROPHONE.

Exactly why he is looking for a 3.5mm microphone. They removed the 3.5mm input due to it's bulky size and instead produced an adaptor for the existing micro usb input.

REFER TO ABOVE.

That was a bit over the top Christrails, chill.

That was actually really rude. How did Neil know that you knew to get an adapter? Whether the reply is correct or not, (Neil's reply was indeed factually correct) Remember that someone took time to find the link, and reply to your question.

:) I just got mine yesterday, based on ++AB's recommendation, the only snag with this mic is that it's a 6M (21 feet) long cable, which is a slight downfall. Anyone else got the Audio Technica 3350?

My initial thoughts on the "I own a Go Pro Hero 3 and was wondering what microphone is the best to use for the camera" was: "Why don't you look for a micro-usb mic first?", upon looking on the gopro site believing that the manufacturer may have the best solution for its cameras was the adaptor. Having not mentioned that he already had an adaptor, I figured he'd struggle a little plugging the 3.5mm jack he requested, into that port.

My bad, I am to assume everyone knows everything.

Tis the season to be jolly and all. :D

GPH3 doesn't support what's called "USB Host Mode", as such it can't actually use USB devices for its own demises. GoPro does some internal witchery to allow the USB pins to also act as an analog audio input. You're pretty much stuck using their adapter until someone ciphers the pin-outs and makes their own.

Buy some inexpensive ones off eBay.
Pick the one that sounds best and is most comfortable to use.

And don't forget that you need a micro USB adapter in order to plug it in ..................... ;)

I am also from Australia and had a similar issue trying to find a mic. I thought it would be as simple as going down to Dick Smith and grabbing one. But no!

After much searching, I ended up down at a store on the Gold Coast called Jaycar. Not sure if they have a store near you, but they are online too. This is the one I bought. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.as ... TID=1025#4

Agreed. I got a generic microphone from Jaycar. Nerb1's recommendation. It works well.
