Blake, you buy a lot of second hand gear, don't you? I'm not saying that you bought a duff jacket, but it's something to think about. I've had a 45mph lowside with a jacket that cost me £45 and I still use it occasionally.

Hope you're better soon, though. If you fancy going to your local pub or something for a catch up, just shout :)

I used to yeah, haven't for over a year, it's (was) all bought newThe jacket had an RRP of £180, just didn't do it's job. Might take you up on the pub ;)

very sad to hear mate. glad your okay and that it wasn't something more serious. Hopefully your back on the road soon. i bet your pissed the kerb was there - panniers seem to have taken everything else.

try and turn it into a positive though. Try and isolate what could have caused it and work on that aspect of your riding. I'm gonna take a stab that if you were still turning off the round about, may have been some diesel or some debris on the road that your front wheel has caught while you've been distracted by the beep. hard enough to manage while fully alert so definitely a possibility if your mind was on your panniers.

Re: Man Down (Pics)

Id take the jacket back to were you got it and tell them about it. see if theirs anything they can do to help you out as you could say the jacket was not fit for its function.

best wishes for a speedy recovery.

hay at least you have a reason to get rid of that dodgy pannier now haha

Right, to update you all.

I got the estimate for repairs back from the bike shop on Monday, it came to £2200, which is about what the bike was actually worth so I said no. I managed to get just over £1000 for it from a breaker, the bits that were broken were expensive to fix, but the bits that were still there were worth a fair bit so it actually had more value to a breaker than to someone who would repair it, if that makes sense.

So, the long and short of the situation is I'm on the hunt for a new bike, I'm thinking I might indulge my long term wish for an SV650 (the new shape, the old ones are disgusting looking IMO)

Oh yes, and i'm going in to week 3/6 of having my arm in plaster, turns out I broke one of the bones going from my left thumb to my main arm one (you can tell I did well at Biology in school)
