I thought some of you might like to see part of one of the local roads around here - I got to thinking about how most kneedowns only happen for a fraction of a second, but around here we've got the privilege of this little beauty!

I've got my knee down here for a whopping great 10 seconds!

Got mine down down for the first time today :D

Got to love the hot weather...

I scraped something on the underside of my Vespa yesterday on a roundabout. What do I win for that?

Am I the only one that feels no urge to get my knee down? it's never something that has really appealed!

It depends which way you see it. If you're someone who lives for speed, lives for the adrenaline of a great ride then you're probably a super sports junkie. Along with this desire for speed comes the need to ride the bike as hard as you can and as a result the highest speed you will reach on a bend is with your knee downs. Knee downs are seen as a sign or indicator of skill amongst said Super Sport junkies.

No Blakey, you're not the only one. I actually might have a hankering for a supersports one day, but even then I'll have no hankering to get my knee down, unless it's on a track. Sure it's a level of commitment, but on public roads I think it's just insane.

No. I'm with you. Sure, I'd like my chicken strips wider, but theyre as wide as the YBR will let me go!

Well, there are two types of kneedown: Touching down because you're carrying that much speed you have to (as seen on racetracks everywhere), or there's the kind you can happily do at 30mph because you're reaching specifically to get your knee down.

The latter is actually a safer way of getting around a corner, because you're pulling less lean angle on a bike, where if you were sat upright at the same speed you'd be taking the bike much closer to the limits of its grip and ground clearance. The video above is somewhere between the two but more towards the reaching one.

I remember watching superbike racing when I was a little kid, and then going out sticking my knees out on by bicycle trying to copy them! It's a massive thrill and lets me know I can still lean the bike over a hell of a lot more when I touch my sliders down. Try it... you'll like it!

Pretty much sums it up, i never set out wanting to get my knee down, didn't think I could/wanted to. Just wanted to get the perfect body positioning, to keep the bike more up right. Bum off seat, head by the mirror and so on. Made my riding a lot smoother and more controlled, also helps in the wet.

I got mine down on a roundabout i go on everyday, got halfway round and remember something about getting your head around the mirror. Not just above it, then clunk. Certianly wasn't going "i'll try and get my knee down now"

I defiantly wouldnt make a habit of it, and would never dream about doing it in any other place than that one roundabout on rare occasions, or on the track. ( If they actually let restricted licence do track days)

Man I would love to do it, still haven't. I think my technique is wrong.

Someone needs to make a decent video telling me how because I feel like I am close but never touch down. :D
