Just Curious

The main thing I seem to hear about GoPro is the battery life. @SwissMotard has a battery pack that I think is attached to his helmet with dual-lock. You can get Anker battery packs and run the USB lead down to your jacket pocket too. Probably a better idea when it's cold as batteries perform better when ambient.

Correct, I get about 4.5-5 hours from my setup.

Right now When I am recording it is continuous. My drive is 1.5 hours each way to work which right now when I do the most so since the battery on go pro will not make a full trip in or back. I have gone to an external battery pack mounted to my helmet. So with a 64 gig card I can get full trip without having to stop and change batteries.

This is my set up. I just got it set up and have been recording on the same charge on this battery so far over 4 hours of recorded video with Gopro and Sena GP10 back pack. As well as one charge of my Sena 20S cause I forgot to charge my Headseat. And The External battery still showing it is still about 3/4. The battery right now is mounted with Zip ties but I since this worked out so well I am going to work up a mount in CAD and cut out on my CNC.

Yeah that method is really common now, but most people go for the more streamlined and safer flashlight battery styles on the side of the helmet.

Dont know if it is any safer. This set up with the larger battery is for very extended use.
This is my first Set up I designed. Prior to getting the Sena GP10 BT Backpack.

Run it all the time. Also really hoping my ghost wasn't fully charged yesterday or I'm going to need some extra batteries / external power.

Wow. Don't you find it heavy having all that stuff on the helmet? I don't think you can ride fast safely without anything having a chance of flying off, plus it doesn't look waterproof either.
Actually with the Big pack it only adds 6 oz of weight. The smaller Flashlight style one that I have also adds 4 oz. of weight. As far as waterproof you are correct. As far as I know there are NO True 100% water proof options when it comes to external battery. Even the hard wired that plugs into the gopro port on the back that case is not 100% water proof just water resistant. I have the Sena Skeleton back on that allows acces to the Charging port which what I am using to power both the Gopro as well as the Sena BT Backpack. I would not have a problem wearing this in a very light rain set up. But would not wear it during a rain storm I would remove the Battery pack and put on the Waterproof door. BUt then I would be limited to the 1 hour 20 min ish that the Gopro battery allows maybe a bit less with the WiFi on.

Mine's fully rain proof with my external battery attached. Ridden for 4 hours in heavy rain with no issues.

Obviously not submersion proof.

What's the total weight of your helmet including all the external devices, like the camera, sena, battery, etc?
I find anything above 1.5kg to be heavy, and you need more strength to support a heavy helmet on your head, which increases the rate you will experience fatigue.
Ever considered having a ciggie port usb style charger on the bike and just route a charging wire to the camera on the helmet to reduce weight on the head? Yes it might be a bit messy having to route the cable probably some velcro to secure the cable to the jacket or something like that.

I will have to weight everything out and get back to you. The weights I found were on Amazon and I could not find an actual weight on my Sedici Sistima Modular but I do know it is not one of the lightest helmets out there.
I prefer to be as wire free as possible. I do have a Switronix battery eliminator but do not like how long the wire is. When the camera is mounted directly to the bike it is not that bad I can zip tie up all that extra wire and plug directly into my bike.

I have not tried this exact set up all day but 3rd of July I wore previous set up which was the Gopro, a 5000mah pack and Cardo G4 with a wired mic. I had that set up on from 7 am until about 10 pm that night on my ride from Wisconsin to the Quad cities and back. I probably had my helmet off about 2 hours total that day. I also have a herniated disk at L5 in my neck and was not as bad I thought it would be.
