So when you guys are hanging out on your bike taking a break, do you support the bike up when you sit on it or just sit on the bike while it rests on the kick stand (side stand).. I'm curious because I have this weird idea in the back of my head that the stand will fail and the bike will tip under the extra weight.. My cousin always sits on the bike while it rests on the stand and I don't know how people can be so bold.. Let me know what you guys think!

You should be fine I believe they have a weight limit would recommend seeing what yours is if you're worried. I just get off my bike.

I think the kickstand should be able to support the weight of the rider sitting on the bike with the kickstand down. However, personally, I don't do that. If I do, I might have one butt cheek on the seat area, with one foot on the ground, so not all my weight is on the bike. Generally I don't though, I just find something else to sit on or just sit on the ground if it's not dirty.

I do understand your concern, worried if the kickstand will break under the extra weight (not just of the bike), it could happen (break) under the right conditions, I think.

i have a side stand and a center stand so i can have the pick of both but the use of no stand sitting on the bike worries me i might lose footing and the bike and i go down

I'll lean on the bike occasionally with it on its side stand, but I never put all my weight on it while it's on the stand. I'm tall enough that my butt touches the seat when I lean on it, though.

I don't really just sit on the bike. I lean against it with the stand down if I'm stopping for a drink or something.

I remember Billmaa telling me a story about how he was leaning on his bike with the kickstand down trying to be a badass when he was younger in front of some girls. Long story short, it failed, bike fell, he looked like a fool.

I sit on mine with the kickstand down occasionally. No issues here. Any well-built bike should not have a problem holding a rider on the side stand imo

at the back of my mind I don't trust the side stand enough to sit on the bike , although I see no reason why it wont take my weight ,

As long as I'm on solid ground, ya I sit on it with the kickstand down all the time. I have never had one fail and have never seen on fail.

There was footage where someone left his wife sat on the bike while he went to pay for fuel and while he was in the shop, the kickstand went (was a big Pan or similar), and down the bike went with his Mrs and she was stuck until someone lifted the bike.

I think it's fine to do on the following provisos: If someone is watching, especially filming, it is more likely to fail. If you are where it can fall over and you can't right the bike by yourself, it will fail. If your bike could get expensively damaged by the stand failing, it will fail. Sod's law applies :)

Sounds about right, lol.

If I'm taking a break while riding, I'm off the bike, why would I want to still be sitting on it?

Anyhow, I wouldn't worry about the side stand failing structurally, but I would worry about the bike rolling and the stand folding up, or worry about the hot pavement melting and letting the bike fall over.

I had a Honda cbf600 that I fell off while sitting on the bike with the side stand down....I had both feet resting on the side crash bungs...and even though the bike was leaning to the left...a slight shift I'm my weight caused it to topple.to the right...felt like a right tit as it was in a busy supermarket car park....now I get off and just lean against it...

When I've got luggage on I get on and off by stepping onto the peg and then the seat so all my weight is on the stand, same in reverse never had an issue (yet).

every ride I've taken has been limited to a half an hour from my house...no time for a brake. When it ran out of gas a couple weeks ago I tried sitting on it but became uncomfortable due to lack of butt
