Hey peeps..

Thought i'd bring a few insurance things to the boards..

Was just casually watching bike vids on youtube as per usual..

A few GSXR750 and a few 1000 as well as Hayabusa vids..

I thought.. Hm... I wonder what my insurance would be If i was to get one TOMORROW..

I ran over to MoneySupermarket.com.

GSXR750.... About £5500...
GSXR1000... About £5500..
GSXR1400... About £740...

Anyone spot something strange here.. :O

As has been mentioned before, insurance isn't just set by capacity. It may be the case that people who buy 1400's are more experienced, thus less likely to crash so the overall liability is lower, or there may be other factors such as average rider age, bike usage etc

GSXR750.... 148bhp - Insurance Group 16 - Supersport
GSXR1000... 185bhp - Insurance Group 17 - Supersport
GSXR1400... 105bhp - Insurance Group 14 - Sports Tourer

Unless you mean the Hayabusa which is.

GSX1300R - 175 - 194bhp - Insurance Group 15 - 17 - Supersport.

They didn't make a GSXR1400 it's GSX1400, 'R versions' are Suzuki's answer to Yamaha's R1.

The reason why your getting a quote for a 1400 cheap is because the insurer is thinking your less likly to go and kill it on the road unlike a GSX'R' 1000 which your more likly too.

I still can't find anyone who can explain to me why insurance is so expensive in the UK. The insurance company doesn't even have to cover medical costs, the primary insurance cost in the US, since its already paid for in taxes. I don't get it. I've never paid much over £100 a year since I started riding a 650cc motorcycle the day I turned 16. Now that I'm borderline old-fart, its £50 a year for full comprehensive + 50/100/25.

Now I know what all the rioting was about... I'd be pissed off too if I had to pay that much, lol!

I just punched in my info for a GSXR750 liability using my info on Geico.com for example:
Here is your quote for 12 months of coverage.
6 Payments $17.85 a month -Start for $29.75
or Pay in full $101.00

They don't even always cover legal expenses either which can run into tens of thousands of pounds.

Ruddy UK.

I don't understand it either but if you are a young driver/rider then insurance companies charge RIDICULOUSLY high prices, because they can.

Example: A while back I got a quote on a 1.3L Diesel Corsa (i.e. slowest vehicle on earth) and it was £2500 TPF&T, absolutely crazy, that was over 4x the cost of the car. I could never afford that for just 52 weeks of insurance.

Is there a lack of competition? I can't recall exactly, but I don't think insurance was that bad back in Germany. Sounds outright criminal to me how they get to rip the people off like that. Greedy bastards!

If you're say 30 though, then its reasonable again?

They do checks on areas, age, bike and if one area had a reputation for stealing, gun crime or anything revolved around the police having to register that area as a high crime rated area then your more likly to be at risk.

For instance, I live in the middle of a area where if I travel 10mile north, east & west of me it's a high rate of crime area but if I travel 10 mile south it's a pretty nice area and is good country side.

A 17y/o on a CBR1000RR is more likly to snap his wrist back get a hard-on and crash unlike a guy in his mid 30's where he knows the power.

-Reasons why we bikers in the UK get butt fudged for insurance.
