Insurance Is a Joke - Sometimes

It's not a sin, I'm just recalling people getting flamed for grammar on here and hate seeing people argue over trial things because people misread or read too much into a thread. It's easily avoided and if scan reading works then that's great, but in this instance it didn't seem to. Good luck with the Uni App, read every word in the books, they are printed for a reason, it's a shame to miss out on some vital info that may not come into your field of vision while scan reading.

Don't take it as targeted at you, some people have issues with spelling/text talk etc, scan reading is my thing.

Fairysnuff, just so long as you know i'm only trying to help :)

Insurance does work in strange ways, for example my GPZ500S is £300 a year, the same company would want £800 for a F650 GS. Its obviously 150 more CC, but is 10bhp less. And I would have thought it was a lower risk bike as well, but i must be wrong.

I second the fact we don't all have time to read posts in full, even if we want too, at the minute the only chance I get to check to forum is on the toilet (too much information I know)

I just got a quote for a G650GS, and I am wondering how you guys get it so cheap.

£980 with 2yrs no claims

Looking forward to the calls tomorrow from the desperate sales people.

A few prices for me - TPFT, 17, 1 years no claims, license for 6 months

2000 F650 GS - £440

2005 SV650s - £400

2001 CB600 - £350

R6 - Couldn't get insurance even if I wanted too.

1990 CBR600 - £1500

1999 CBR600F - £1500

BUT mid-nighties 1 litre Nissan Micra would be £2500. So we can't really complain too much.

Insurance is a joke for cars, don't know of it's the same for bikes. When I bought my first Alfa it cost £350 F/Comp the following year it went up to over £500! Obviously the more years and ncb you have means nothing nowadays. For me to insure a 125cc bike on a cbt TPFT it would cost £200. I really don't get it.

Man, looking at what you people pay makes me feel a WHOLE lot better about what I pay. :)

Full comp on my 03 VFR is running me about £251. Per year. With 2 £3200 claims in the last 18ish months.

Those rates sure are wtf. The rates here go by cc and style. So my drz costs about 300 a yr but if it was 401cc that price would double... Also I love reading brit/eu threads so much rage XD

I think down here they look at everything. Risk, parts cost, engine size, bike style, etc.

I thought they just put prices in a hat and pulled them out? Sure seems that way.

I actually think that is the way they do it. When I called up my current insurance company to insure my Fazer they tried to charge me £980. That gave me a shock. When I told them my previous quote was £610, the salesperson said 'oh, we can do it for that' after going to ask his boss. In reality, he would have got more commision with the higher price - that is my theory anyway. No reason why the exact same over would suddenly drop in price by £370.

My renewal for my car was £732. Phoned up and got it down to £611. I used to think it was cheaper to insure if your car was kept in a garage, but you save over £100 if you say its kept on the street.

Get on ALL the price comparison websites and get quotes from everyone!

If you know anyone else with a bike license (preferably female), add them as a named rider to your policy, and that will bring it right down (I do this on my car policy).

I pay around £110 fully comp for a 1999 ZX9R, and after a years driving got my car insurance (1998 Honda Civic Sport) down from over £500 to around £300.

It helps if you're an old bastard, too.
