I have just literally decided to wash my bike for the first time in a few weeks and was a little shocked that i have rust appearing on all metal exposed parts on my bike!!!, i could rub some of the rust of but the rest of it seems really gripped to the metal work. Has anyone got any ideas to firstly remove the rust and then protect from further issues?

I am blaming the salt on the roads for this one it can only be that as i haven't had rust ever beforelike this on the bike, ironically i am having 2 parts on the bike replaced under warranty soon because of early rusting!!!

You need to wash your bike more often during winter, if i'm using it daily it will be washed properly every week. I also keep a brush and bucket of water in the garage to just clean off the most exposed parts of the bike (downpipes, engine casing etc) after every ride, this means I have seen no rusting at all this year! :D

A product like ACF50 or FS365 might be worth looking into, I use the latter and it seems to have been effective!

Was just having a look at that FS365, look really good stuff. Do you just spray it on and let it dry by itself? and is it a regular application like once every couple of days?

My trouble is i dont have anywhere to wash my bike apart from round a friends house due to where i live so washes can sometimes be 2-3 weeks apart

I use ACF50 on mine bike also, its like a thicker version of WD40 and seems to do the work. Also I keep the bike covered unless its got wet then I leave it uncovered so it can dry.

Another vote for ACF50 here.

Claims say it stops existing corrosion, and if it's good enough to use on aircraft then I'm happy with it on my bikes!

I've been using it for years, and hardly ever wash my bikes. It's good.

FS365 isn't used on aircraft, because it washes off easily. It IS much cheaper, though...

Oh, and You're supposed to use it BEFORE Winter, you tits!

Im all for ACF 50, or the purple gozz as i call it, i has some very small bits of surface rust starting to crop up after i forgot to wash the bike during the christmas period (too busy stuffing my face :? ) but after leaving some of the purple stuff on the bike for a week it all seemed to go awey :)
