Ideal Length

What is the best length for a vlog? When I started, my videos were much longer. Now they usually come in under 10 min. I find when the video is longer than 10 min, I don't even want to watch it to edit it!

What do you find as a good, comfortable running time for a MotoVlog? What is your ideal?

Vlogs...not just motorcycles, but in general I think around the 5-10min mark is ideal. Unless you are doing a video in a cinematic way telling a story/adventure it gets kinda boring IMO.

Every channel is different though...look at your analytics and see how long people watch for. That should be an indicator for you.

It depends on your content, if people are talking about something unrelated to the video then I have no time for them at all.

If it's someone I have gotten to know and care about like accidentalbroadcast sharing his woes in getting his bike up an running or on an adventure then no video is too long.

Most people are somewhere in between with me rarely watching anything over 12 minutes if there aren't many videos, or 8 minutes if my list is getting long.

Rule of thumb 10 mins MAX - 5 is even better, especially when you are just starting out. Once you have a few people who regularly comment and watch you might get away with the odd longer one if it is about something relevant to those people and any discussions you have already had.

I tried looking at analytics, but it told me nothing really. Most of my vids are 5 minutes, average view time is half that.

I don't think it excludes the accidental starts, such as people coming back for comment replies, or autoplayed videos that weren't wanted, and that's before you got to the people who switch off seconds after it starts.

A little bar chart of the numbers who switch off after a percentage of the video would be most useful. That way those who switch off in the first 5% of 5-10 minute vids can be removed from your stats leaving a better idea of how long the majority stay for. Certainly a means to ignore views of less than 15 seconds. Should bring the displayed average up to a meaningful number.

As a viewer, I like videos that are longer than five minutes. Twelve minutes is probably my sweet spot.

When I'm editing my videos, I look to cut out the empty spaces. I try to keep some flow, though.

One thing that really helps is doing "retakes" after I know I took excessively long in explaining something. I'll just do it again more concisely, and then I just cut out the long one when I edit.

My videos have usually been around twelve minutes. I guess it's no surprise since I like watching videos around that length.

I will upload shorter ones, for sure. I already have ideas for those. I will probably post longer ones, too.

I'm not concerned with the analytics; I'll post what I like and be happy with the whatever amount of subscribers I have.

I like to keep mine short and as interesting as I can. I edit out a lot of tangents, umming / ahhhing and 'waste of time' footage so as to keep the video moving and not loose peoples interest. I try to think what interests me and go along those lines, long, boring and going nowhere vlogs tend to lose my interest pretty quickly.

Like all, I try for under 10, sometimes gets tricky though, even when I think it's gonna be a "short" one!

Typically under 10 for normal stuff. Special rides like my current Indonesia project are hard to keep under 10 and I don't really care, the scenery is unreal.

I find it important to watch, re-watch, and even watch with people to get their opinions and see how engaged they are...

I just checked out your channel to see what that much effort looks like and I'm immediately punched in the face by your wall of thumbnails when looking at your list of videos.

It actually made me recoil in my seat haha!

I usually aim for around 7-8 minutes but often go over that. I do try to make them under ten minutes though and usually do cut out some extra stuff if they go over the 10 minute mark.
