i dont know whats so great about harelys

I took out a Harley Sportster 1200 Forty Eight for a test ride and the engine was brilliant. Unfortunately the forward controls were a pain at low speed and grounded way too easily on corners (basically every corner). Oh, and you always felt like you were going to slide off the single seat. Apart from that it was great. Surprisingly good suspension and brakes alongside a nifty proximity alarm. I did write a full first ride review for another site, but I don't like linking to other motorcycle forums on here. Some people can get a little upset about it.

Having said that, instead of buying the Harley, I got a VFR800. Equally awesome engine, better brakes and cost far far less to buy :p

While I like some Harleys, I can't stand most of them. Sure, it feels like you're sitting on your couch while going down the highway, but I don't like them. Plus, here locally there are a LOT of Harleys with ape hangers. I can only imagine how it feels to get hit in the armpit with a wasp on one of those because you are too cool for a helmet or a jacket.

The whole stigma that goes with them is what annoys me. Be a normal person by day, then after work put on your chaps, spurs, leather vest with two dozen patches and a big logo on the back saying you are affiliated with a certain group of bad-asses, and pretending to be someone you aren't in general. Now I mean no disrespect to anyone here by this, I'm actually referring to someone I personally know.

This discussion is very polarizing. That's something I don't like when talking about Harley motorcycles, when personal opinions get projected so far as to bash anything we dislike.
When it's about Harley, some agree that they're annoying, loud scumbags, the motorcycles vibrate to pieces and they don't handle well but the same people drool over the sound of a straight pipe 1000cc i4 hitting the limiter, they meet in circles around some dude making burnouts and wheelies without most protective gear and generally ride like dumb-asses on the highway.
I personally never rode a Harley, as OP, given the chance I will surely try one but I don't think I'll ever own one. I'm broke most of the time so I stick to buying as much as I can with the little money I have, Harley is nothing short of overpriced. Is like the Apple of motorcycles. People don't buy it because it's good, people buy it because sheepmind.
I have a neutral opinion and I give respect to all riders, doesn't matter what they ride as long as they respect the road, themselves and the environment. I don't care what they ride. I will befriend a harley or a scooter rider as long as they're respectful.
Now, there's something different about Buell motorcycles.

I'll have to try to find it, but there's a spoof Harley ad on YT, shows the coin operated model Harley for the kids to ride asthenosphere most reliable bike in the shop :)

Harley, no matter where it is made now, is still considered the epitome of 'Merica when it comes down to bikes. I like things American and do love the way a Harley sounds with a good set of pipes. But owning one once I am ready to join ya'll on 2 wheels? Probably not...

1. Too expensive, cheap ones will murder your bank account in maintenance, and the newer ones... well... murder your bank account.
2. Too much vibrations, every time I see one at the light idling it looks like it's rattling apart.
