so i went to a harely demo tent event sat and i road a 2014 street bob and all i can say is i dont get what all the hype is about them. the seat was way to low to have mid controls. im 6-2" so my knees sat higher then my a**. the bars they had on it where mini apes they were ok i would still trade them out for a straighter bar set. i dont like how theirs not a tack i go by that more than the speedo on my bike. i also really dont know why someone would pay that much for a bike like that. all in all i would only get one if it was cheap.

You should try a Harley though, Harely sounds like a cheap knock off :p

In all seriousness though, I understand what you are saying, although I DO love the V-ROD, but all the others I sat on did not feel right, except the V-ROD.

I hate them to be honest. I just think that cruisers in general are often ugly. I do like the idea of the Fat Bob in matt black

To each their own. The bigger cruisers are usually incredibly comfortable. The smaller ones are more for appearances than anything. There's a LOT of people who sit on a sportbike and think anyone who rides one would have to be insane for torturing their body like that.

Why did you choose the Street Bob to test ride?
a outa state buddy of mine has an older one that he was going to sell me last year but it didnt work out so i wanted to see how it was.

im getting a bigger and bigger hard on for older bikes being made into cafe racers and streetfighters. an old bike with a modern swing arm and forks looks sexy.
and ive never been a fan of the sportbikes just to much plastic for my taste

i would rather be in a laying down on my belly type tuck then have my knees straight up and in my chest if i lean foward

HARLEY IS DEAD!!!!!!
As far as im concerned, a Harley as an icon is Dead. Their just NOT American Made Muscle!! Thats where the image came from and where it left in about Mid to late 90's. (bout the time the 'Evo' motor replaced the 'Un-reliable' old style).
Their all Indian+Chinese made now, tuned by others and Not really even assembled in the U.S anymore.

People on Harley's today, are just surviving on 'Modern day' techkno/marketing hype, that Amazingly, is still keeping the company alive.
FYI Hayley merchandise outsells the Bike itself EVERY year. So that says to me, either people just wanna be known to have had/have/wanna have one. Based on marketing alone.
The bikes, OVER-priced and IMO, much becoming 'inferior' to a well made Japanese cruiser. Just with 'patented' Barrel size and angle (sound).

I got sick of people asking "Is it a Harley", at lights on my Yamaha Custom cruiser i have.
NOT EVERYONE IS A LEMMING...u Fukr (insert 'the bird' here)

Apparently, if it goes BlupBlupBlupBlup, its a Harley.
I did want to do my tank sticker as 'Hardlya Davidson', all proper font and all, just as a Stab at 'those' riders. lol.

If i ever bought a Harley, it would have to be for a REALISTIC price, not the Dream prices people seem to ask+get. Anyway, it'd be a REALLY old one. The new ones just DONT have that 'Soul' anymore.

My 2c and ALOT of change worth.
> : )

I started on Harleys but progressed into sport / sport touring motorcycles. The draw to them is kinda hard to explain from a sport bike perspective. Harley has been one of the best in advertising their ancient machines and keeping their customer base. From cheesy biker tv shows, dog leashes to Ford pickup trucks. They are a monster brand. Just buying one earns you instant access to their brotherhood (Local Harley Owners Group), the style, heritage and their mystique. Their dealership support is also one to be kinda jealous about. There always seems to be an HD dealership just around the corner. I'll stick to my sport touring machines, thank you verify much. Maybe get a Buell Ulysses one of these days.

The art of branding is awesome, I dont like them, Loud for no reason, the hard tail ones want to shake you to bits, they arnt the fastest thing around theirs better jap v twins, or if your into cruisers the triumph rocket 3, and i dont like the idea of smashing my chromed foot rests to bits on a 20grand harley around every corner. but each to their own :)

did someone say Harelys? ...

... like this?? :p;)

double post but meh ...

i dont have enough money for one anyway ... but if i had to .. id get a 90's FLSTF FatBoy ... not a fatboy LO (trendy-ist nonsense) not chopped/raked/stretched/anything'd ..... just the plain Arnie/Terminator type one ... stock as a rock .. just for a relaxed cruise sometimes....

wups .. RANT ENGAGED

dont know why people keep complain that they dont handle like a sportbike, adventure bike or whatever.... youse think!?!?! ... fark ... its like military pilots saying "oh but that A6 Intruder you fly cant match my F-14 Tomcat" ... well F&$K ... thats a surprise! .. different machines that both have wings and jet engines but completely different tasks!? ... and yes i know the A6 is primarily a small bomber...

KA-6_F-14_DN-ST-87-10386.jpg

if its about the fragged up handling of the bikes... then be unilateral and hammer on the individuals that have to stretch the swingarm on a GSXR or similar.... and just ride the streets forever without hitting up the local dragstrip once!? .. or the persons that take an entirely innocent streetbike and do a really shit Bobber job on it... then complain that it 'dont run right!!?'

and yes i am aware that some HD owners are 'a bit temperamental' about their machines and branding etc ... so are the Ducatisti !! .. and the Charley Boorman disciples etc etc ...

(i am too young to remember but i am aware of ... Mods vs Rockers and their bikes in the 60's? ... some hectic battles went on there apparently?!)

im a fan of Motorcycles!! ... some more than others for sure.... pocketbikes, postie bikes, sports bikes, dirt bikes, any bikes!! even that Dodge Tomahawk frankenstein thing!!... but i get this expression in my brain when folks hate on the bikes because the hatin is the 'popular' bit

Disguist.jpg

RANT= OFF.... Rockstar is wearing off now anyway.... mumble grumble grinch grinch grinch!!

now ... :) ... someone be clever and find a post ive done where ive been less than positive about a particular bike.... .... it'll probably be about those bloody Kawasaki monstrosities!! o_O;););)

You obviously rode the wrong one. :) I would own a Harley Sportster in a heartbeat.
Heres the one I have been riding lately. (owned by a mate)

Me too, sorta. That's why I sold my M50 and bought a VFR. However, that's OUR preference. You asked why OTHERS like them. You don't get to project your preferences onto someone else and use that to question their motives. Plenty of people would rather recline back a little and stretch their legs rather than scrunch down and lean forward.

Besides, not all Harleys fit the way the one you referenced fit. You rode one of the smaller, more cramped ones. I'm 6'3, and I've sat on cruisers that allowed me to stretch my legs out in front of me and get quite comfortable in the knee department, which is something absolutely no sportbike can ever even claim to allow.

Buddy of mine has an XB9r. Surprisingly fun bike, bit small for my huge frame though. Vibrates like mad at idle, makes the mirrors totally useless, but once it's going it smooths out a lot. It's a shame Harley put so many stupid restrictions on Buell. Those bikes could have been awesome, but they were neutered by HD from the beginning.
