just wondering how often people are changing the oil on their bikes

Check your handbook. Don't exceed the service interval (especially for changing oil) and use genuine or good quality parts/oils as required for that service.

Every day, commuting use then whatever the manual states

According to the service manual it's every 3,000 km but if you feel that you are really hard core you can change sooner than that.. As long as you got the cash for it.

Just do what the manual states then. It's a Honda it will be fine

I use semi synthetic oil on my bike and change it every 2500 - 3000kms. Note that mine is a single cylinder (Honda XR 250) . In my experience you can go upto 4000-5000 kms in a four cylinder with semi synthetic on road riding conditions.
For competition riding, I think it is best to change oil at one third of the above mileage or sooner than that

Racing and track riding is pretty much either other meet. I do mine between days as the engines get wasted

I agree with you. The more abuse you put on your engines, the sooner you must feed her with new oil in order to ensure longivity
