How Do You Choose Your Name?

Last name is "Wolf". I am often referred to as "Mr.Wolf" as my first name is extremely common. Just going by "Wolf" didn't seem to have enough substance to it and I figured... well, I live in the North... so I stuck Name+Cardinal Direction = Username.
Kind of boring, I know.

About 16 years ago I was sitting in the back of my 6th grade English class listening to some punk rock girls talk about their new band name - Chicks with Sticks (sticks being guitars).

At the time I was very much into flying aerobatic (or 3D if you are well versed in modern radio control speak) RC airplanes. I was one of the only girls that flew at our local club (of about 70 or so male members + a few wives who flew) so I formulated the name chix (girl) with trix (aerobatics).

No, it wasn't a stripper name or anything of the sort ;)

My name probably doesn't make much sense to anyone but it means alot to me, I'll just leave it at that ;)

I used to play Quake back in the 90s. I got the nickname "supersonic" because I killed people so fast. I often got accused of being a bot. When Hotmail came out I tried to make a new account using supersonic, but it was not available. The site suggested sonic6, so I changed that to sonicsix and here we are today.

Well, my whole schtick for my channel is that I ride around and talk about nerdy stuff. The original name I came up with was "Riding Nerdy" which I still love, but I hopped on Youtube and discovered that another dude had grabbed it like 2 weeks earlier.

He seems like a good dude and I don't bear him any ill will. He beat me to it fair and square, but it does suck that his channel isn't nerdy in the slightest from what I can tell. He does a bunch of cool dirtbiking stuff, though.

So, when I couldn't be "Riding Nerdy," "Dork in the Road" was born!

This site wouldn't let me use all the letters in my nickname, which is Scooterwolf. so i shortened wolf to wuf. My actual real name means little wolf, so since I'm a scooter enthusiast, which tend to be smaller than most MCs, it made sense.

- Wuf

Mine is rather simple... my first name is Garth and a buddy back in school used to call me Garthox.
Most people close to me call me Garthy.

I've since used Garthox for most things.

It was a toss-up between the two at the time if making my YouTube account.

Mine is short for Deal's Gap (aka the dragon, tail of the dragon, etc) .. It's the name I've used on nearly ever bike or gun related forum I've ever been on.

I grew up there and my dad is the one who first marketed the area to bikers and is credited with being the one to blame for it being so popular today.

I have that name and a few others I'm tossing around for my yt channel once I get it up and going

My name stems back from my early days of online gaming (original Half-Life, Unreal Tournament etc) at the time I really liked the song Voodoo People by the prodigy, so I used the word Voodoo, ever since then it's kinda stuck. I've used it as my forum name for a lot of sites and still for some online gaming, but sadly I'm down to only playing Minecraft these days lol

Im stuck with making a channel name as well. My nick name is Stank as its part of my last name and I want to include that! I ride Harley but idk if ill always have one like you mentioned. Like you said, just have to get creative and pull in other parts of our life into it. I'm sure you'll come up with something good.

I know this thread is old but would rather add on this one than make a new one, my name and channel name is Yellow Backpack Guy, or YBguy (for short) or YBG (for super short). The name has a really simple straight forward meaning. I wear a yellow pack when I ride around on my bikes to make me more visible. Hence, Yellow Backpack Guy. : )

Well, I guess I'll keep this revived thread going. My channel name is MisplacedMotoVlogger, too long to use it as a screen name, so MMVNJ is how I shortened it. The NJ is from where I live. The misplaced part stems from kind of feeling out of place in the densely populated area that I live. When I was younger my family lived in Wyoming, which is very different than living in New Jersey. Maybe a topic for a future video.

Haha, that is an awesome back story to your name. : )

That's cool Wolf!

I’d been using VladTepes as my online handle for years.

Then, on one of the forums I was one some snowflake complained that my nickname was that of a mass killer.. (too soon, apparently LOL ) so I had to change it.

As I am into Land Rovers (am on my 5th – a 1995 Defender 130), and was frequently lambasted for same on the forum, I became “LandyVlad”

As I joined more forums and YT the nick ‘VladTepes’ had often been taken – but LandyVlad was available (funny that).

So I have stuff on YouTube as ‘LandyVlad’ and for the bike-related stuff ‘LandyVlad Rides

I tried to come up with something clever, but at the end of the day, I already have a personal site I started back in 2009, and related FB, Twitter, and YouTube pages, and the cleverest name I could think of was already taken on YouTube, so I just went with it, deleted a bunch of the old content (that was also listed as reused, so in the case I get to 1,000 subs I wouldn't be able to monetize with it still there), and started over. So far, traction has been decent, but adding Instagram seemed to bump things up a bit.
