How are you mounting the $49 GoPro mic adapter on your helmet?

It is so huge because GoPro hate us lol, they fitted encryption to it too so you can't use aftermarket ones. You can charge the camera through it, which is how the set up in my pic works with the powerbank attached to the peak on my helmet

Ok, I guess when charging is included option, it could almost be bearable. But encryption? I doubt that. Most likely only a resistor, between specific pins, like with Garmin.

The fact that there are no 3rd party adapters as far as I can tell leads me to believe it is actually encrypted.

Thanks for the input so far. I’ve been using an external recorder, but syncing audio and carrying extra gear is a hassle! I just wish this thing wasn’t SO BIG!!! I guess I’ll pull the trigger on purchasing one, but wanted to see how others were mounting it.

I'm currently using a Hero 6, have had to submit to not being able to use the one-touch record that I was able to utilising old Hero 5 firmware which sucks, but have got everything working now. What problems you having with your Hero 5?

No different than in the dry! :)

And no issues at the interface between the mic adaptor USB-C and the GoPro? Have you have heavy rain with this set up?

The reason I ask is that I’m spending a huge amount of time trying to re-waterproof this after removing the door...

Why doesn’t the one touch record work?

If you want to use the one-touch record you can't use an external non-powered microphone. You have to either run a separate voice recorder or use a self powered microphone. When I was using my Hero 5 I got around this by using an older version of the firmware which still allowed it but that isn't an option on the 6

Man, I am learning a lot about the new cameras. Seems like with improvements there are just many drawbacks for us.

I have meanwhile found out, that the reason, this adapter is so bulky, is because it contains the same audio processor, as the camera itself. And the newer gopros only accept digital audio in, not analog, as the older gopros, and as garmin cameras.
So not exactly encryption, but still not easy to make it smaller.
