Hi-viz Gear

Yep. I'm from a state where we had a helmet law, but now live in a state where we don't. Riders with no gear greatly outnumber riders with gear. When I got into my accident I remember the EMS guy reporting to the police or whoever saying "no, she's good, she was wearing full gear" and to some degree I think there was a tone of relief in his voice. Those guys are only human and I can just imagine that having to report to calls with injured motorcyclists just gets really taxing when they see how preventable a lot of the injuries are. I wouldn't want them to in a way resent me for being injured. If I can get some respect and make a first responder's job a little easier, that just benefits everyone. Plus I just think the chemistry behind fluorescent dye/paint is really cool.

Yeah that is so true. Riders with no gear here greatly outnumber riders with gear. I met a guy tonight that had on gear as well and might be motovlogging with him soon. If I can get the video processed tonight or tomorrow, hopefully, it will not take 2 days to upload it. My last video I posted recently took at least 1 day now to upload it. I am thinking it has something to do with the file size, and the length of the video.

I wear all black. Probably not a good ideeeer
Well, that is your own personal preference. I prefer to be seen, because I have had a couple of near misses that even though they might not be on video, there were times that I wish I would have worn Hi-Viz gear, and the way people act around here in Arkansas, with texting while driving or on their cell phones and never looking in the side mirror, and then change lanes on me, it is a risk that I am not willing to take by wearing all black. I say it was about close to 3 years ago, that a guy or gal in a yellow pick up truck, pretty much was going to run me off the road on I-540, right before the Wedington exit, (probably will go that way in an upcoming video and see if it happens again) and was not paying attention and at the time, I had a 1998 Suzuki LS650 Savage that was pretty loud as you will tell from one of my older videos on my channel, and despite the loud pipes, and the oil leaking from the exhaust, as well as head gasket problems, It was loud enough to hear. Despite all this, this yellow pickup truck, was intent on running either my a** over, or running me off the road. Now I do not go anywhere on my new motorcycle without Hi-Viz gear on. Besides that, I usually get off work during the weekdays after midnight, so it is a must for me now, every time I ride.

I am like a lot of others with Hi-Viz. Have piping on the jacket and strips on the helmet that are reflective, also have reflective piping on my gearsack on the back of the bike. I have a Hi-Viz vest but only through that on when the weather is bad at night. I live in a fairly big country town so it isn't complete madness on the roads, but I still ride like everyone is trying to kill me...... keeps me safe that way.

well that is good thing that u have all that reflective gear. I have tried to get some scooter riders around here that work the same shift i work to wear one hi viz vest, yet they keep refusing to wear them. I guess when they get hit enough times when they get off of work at night, maybe then they will see the reason, or for that matter wearing gear. It is amazing to me that I still see people doing that, and yet when they come into the hospital, they will regret ever doing that again. Still like you said "I still ride like everyone is trying to kill me..... keeps me safe that way", I only wish others would feel the same way that you and I feel like.

What do you think to this creation from shark?

Don't get the green tails caught on a lamp post?

Anythign to aid visibility is good, but it looks bloody awful!

Thats false advertising then ;) lol!

Be ok until you forget to charge them or forget to turn them off in your topbox or locker! Bit like my Bluetooth kits :)

I like that Shark helmet. I need a new hi-viz jacket, it's getting a bit grotty and the zip has started coming apart.

I was thinking about SMIDSY's tonight on the way home, and was trying to think when it has actually happened to me in the last two years, and I couldn;t really think of any panic moments where I felt I was invisible to them. I've pretty much understood they all saw me, and still decided to be twits.

SMIDSY's are always from the front though, so if you are hunkering down over your tank on a sports bike, the visibility of a hi-viz is somewhat tempered. On both my scooter and my cruiser, my torso is consistently upright providing a much larger visible hi-viz area

The other thing with abike is that it's a lot harder to perceive how far away they are because the bike is do narrow.

I have high vis gear but I only really use it during rides longer than a couple of miles during the evening, my normal jacket has Hi vis strips though.
