Hi I was wondering if you had to wear a Hi Viz Vest/Bib

What slogan would you have printed on the back to warn cagers?!

I just want 'em to see me. As crazy as it sounds, that stuff can spark road rage. People are really, really stupid you know!

My gear is high vis along with reflective stuff everywhere. It helps, I guess.

I think it's the wording of the question that made us put those responses. Exactly what are we warning them of? Hi Viz's are for increasing how visible you are, not really as a warning.

But if they have read it they HAVE seen you  Some deep sh&t there. Getting into... if a biker is on the road but there isnt a car to see it, does the rider still have hi viz on?

HiVis does not work!!

In Aust. our postmen are largely on Honda Ct110's(postie bike).
Their are 'approximately' 6-8 Deaths per year, and the Postie IS the most avid user for HiVis
(see Pic) http://halftheclothes.com/2013/06/30/th ... e-package/

Our government over here were going to bring in a law, making it manditory for all Riders/pillions, to wear HiVis.
Even tellin us what brand/type of suit you had to buy, NO 'Falloff' Protection, just Plastic/Rubber HiVis jacket/pants/boots.

When i am crouched behind the Dark tinted screen, lights on, oncoming to a car that then pulls out in front of me, Why?, because when you are oncoming, you cant see the HiVis, if you see my side or rear its too late, your not a hazzard and also NOT the one im trying to highlight myself to.

A driver doesnt look-out for dangers smaller than them, they naturally look for larger hazards, police/emergency vehicles, the Orange light that is going to stop them, must get thru running late for....., BANG, thats the Bike trying to turn at the orange light!!
If you dress up as a police-man, THEN youll be seen ALL the time!!

I own ALL the protective gear i will ever need to buy till i die an old man (i think?). FUCKED if im spending more money, just cause my government told me too!!! Statistacally 80% m/cycle deaths are the Cars fault anyway, get them to pay for all our new gear??

Cheers, thats my 'Rant'.

Quoting the great philosopher "Syndrome" from the great drama "The Incredibles":

"When everyone's super... no-one will be".

That is the problem with full-suit high vis. Specially in an environment where LOADS of people use high vis. Our brains react to new patterns, and everything that is usual, normal is just ignored.
So a yellow-dildo postie is viewed as just "another yellow dildo postie".
While if it were a postie wearing pink with a white tutu it would be "wow, would you look at THAT!".

Is it stupid i never use a vid if its sunny. i think more people would see a giant black figure then something that can blend in to lightness.

I use high-viz 95% of the time. But I am on a scooter and sat bolt upright. I'm fully visible (sun not being right behind me notwithstanding), and never had anyone pull out on me where I thought it was a SMIDSY incident.

I completely see the point here that if you are horizontal with your gut on the tank, you are invisible irrespective what you are wearing. Another good reason for me not to get a sport bike.

Trust me, in this FAST paced world we live in, people ONLY look for dangers to themself, if you hadnt had a pull-out yet, your lucky.
But trust me, the MOST typical answer youll hear in your riding life is "I didnt see you".

Other excuses ive had are-
"i didnt look, im just so busy today" (Grabbed keys, through them away, still chuckling bout it)
"i pay WAY more road taxes than you", (missed his mirror)
"My Vehicle is bigger than yours", (was bigger, couldnt reach mirror)
"your an illegal bikie gang member anyway". (am i?) (Embarressed the fuk outta him infront of his wife+mum)
And my personal favorite -
"Its ok, I ride too but i gotta Harley". (BAD answer, pleasure kicking his mirror!!)

HiVis or not, its not the answer when people only take ONE look, then pull-out, merge, etc. Obviously 'Education' is the answer. Or reminding people that you dont have to be SOO fukn busy!! Slow down in life, take a chill-pill!!

The debate will NEVER be over, but youll NEVER see me in HiVis!!

No, the guy pulled out in front of him, and then said that it was okay because he rode a bike too. Probably heat of the moment stuff mixed with adrenaline. Not just because he rides a different type of bike. And there's no need for name-calling.

Either i didnt type it right? Or, Maybe u didnt READ IT??

Sure, Mr Johny Car driver, pull-out in front of me, ill give you No abuse, No Gestures, No un-freindly words(Thats never gunna happen!!).
In 25years, i think 4/5 mirrors is a Very Low amount, for some of the tossers ive encounted in that time.
(besides, Most mirrors have that stupid safety spring, they dont break, but while their re-adjusting it, their thinkn bout their actions)

'Judge not me, lest ye be judged thyself'.

ive worn a hi-vis winter/parka vest a few times... its the dayglo orange with 'approved' reflective tape on it.... but there is a specific purpose...

on those cooling autumn evenings and nights... when i get the urge to fit in a few last spirited squirts .. up the local mountain twisty road... that has bugger all armco ... but lots of steep dropoffs with trees beside the road... i zip the vest on...

just in case i happen to be a little bit too excited and 'go cross country' ..

the vest is just to help the emergency services spot me a little easier... when the missus rings up if im MIA on the ride ..

.. oh an occasionally if im out on the bike intending to do some night photo stills .. and possibly around the edge of a road while stopped...

its kinda strange... you can wear all sorts of bright gear and ride... and the bloody cars still think you dont exist... but wear a reflective hi vis and stand near the edge of the road with the bike running lights on... and you might be a copper with a speed laser gun and take their precious points or cash away!

I normally wear my black, yellow and white leathers with our group hoody thrown over the top which is black and orange on any nice days or nights but if conditions deteriorate or its raining, foggy, cold etc.. I have a very waterproof textile jacket that is all dayglo yellow with reflectors and looks very similar to what the bike policemen use here. Genuinely had people bump there cars up the curb to let me through before because everyone thinks I'm a policeman. But hey whatever works :)

Well obvoiusly they have advantages, each to their own...??

As far as my Government 'Telling' me to wear some, cause some Ill-informed report said it would 'Fix' the problem.
No thankyou.

oh yeah! .. for sure on that! .. completely agree :D .... the Goonamint can stuff the rules of Hi Vis fair up their jacksie sideways!!

most of them would be hard pressed to find their Bum cheeks with both hands at the same time

i've put some reflective rim stickers on the bike.. and the suzuki logo i had remade with a reflective outline .. but my choice to do so! ..

.. however .. if they wanted to say .. 'pay me' somehow... for some hi vis wearing... hmmm... very cheap rego or much reduced insurance rates .... then i might have a go .. maybe ;)
