Helmet Sizes

Hi Everyone!
So my head measurement is 57 and is therefore a medium. I have a Kabuto helmet that says it is for 57-58cm.

Recently I have found that I am getting a huge red mark on my forehead like it is too tight???

So I measured my head again and it still says 57 haha so I haven't got a big head yet lol

Anyway, this has only started after wearing this helmet for like 9 months with no issues. Do I need a larger size regardless of the measurements?

Opinions please :)

Does it feel like a good fit? Not too loose, not too tight? Can't mive your head much in it or get it off while fastened etc etc, you know the spiel.

Assuming your helmet is a good fit, it may be the nuce soft "pile" of the comfort lining has worn leaving the coarse base of the fabric to rub as the helmet moves.

Check the manufacturer info for replacing the helmet, normally 2-5 years. If in doubt them maybe just replace anyway?

Hmmm in DO have a shorter haircut these days... I might go and check out the padding and see how it looks/feels

Otherwise yeah it still feels like a good fit.

You know what, I think I found it.
The inner liner/padding of the helmet has worn in a lot and is basically flat.
This is making the hard plastic/stitching area rub on my forehead and with my shorter haircut it is slipping down and rubbing more.

Ends up I can get a replacement inner padding liner for like $35. Might give that a shot.

Thanks for all your help!

Been there done that. In some cases, the measurement is correct for the size, but unfortunately your head shape doesn't match the internal shape of the helmet, causing pressure points when worn for a certain amount of time. Either you go one size up (but doesn't have the snug fit anymore) or get a different brand helmet (and repeat the process to see if it fits well without pressure points).

Hopefully it's just a case of the padding. If you still have the issue after changing the pad, my advise if not to continue wearing it, sometimes the pressure on the head can cause you to lose focus while riding.

Also worth noting are helmets are not all the same shape. For example a Shoe2 Xr1000 will fit me fine but a Box branded helmet always gives me a pinch point on my forehead.

My helmet is a perfect fit everywhere except my cheeks. It pushes my cheeks together so I look like I'm doing a fish impression...

It's probably the shape that is causing you grief. My head fits great in Shoei helmets but I can't wear an Agu or an Arai without a lot of discomfort. Worn out padding will exaggerate this effect.

Don't forget that most helmet manufacturers only have 3 - 4 shell sizes and then change the size of the pads to fit your head.

I had a similar issue with the Icon Armada. Got a new helmet in a different shape, Shoie Quest and no longer have any pain.
