Hi All,

So with the weather turning yet again and the morning getting freezing cold i have decided enough is enough and i am going to sort out my issue of getting horrible throbbing painfully tips of fingers to some normality over rides

Has anyone got any recommendations, i wont lie equally i am ebing a tight bastard over this and wont spend much

http://www.motorcycle-road-and-race.co. ... 06532.html

I found these and dont know if they are ok? i have been recommended not to get heated grips because they are not very effective with tips of fingers and also probably wont be powered very well on a 125 battery

this thread is declared open :D

Most people talk utter bollocks when they've never even took the bike out when it's below freezing, though. :|

If a 125 battery won't be good enough to power a heated grip, why would it cope better with twice the number of heating elements in a set of gloves? :?

If your battery won't cope you've got bigger problems with your alternator...

Anyway... I use heated grips because they work. The tips of your fingers can get cold, but you can also tuck them in to warm up. I'm using Oxford Hot hands because I used them years ago as a courier, and you can pick up the older sets for about £10. New ones have different heat settings and are no doubt better, but cost more.

I've never known anyone to give heated gloves some serious use without them failing, not being good enough, or setting fire to their hands. At least with heated grips you can just take your hand off the bit that's on fire without too much drama.

Here's my full Winter kit, tried and tested over 13 years of all year riding:

One of the first things I fitted to my bike was heated grips! Work fine on a 125, never had any problems! You can pick up the R&G ones on ebay for £35.

If you do go for the gloves, invest in the battery pack because you want to be able to get as far away from your bike as possible should you crash, being attached to it isn't the best option!

heated grips are the way foward, not too sure how a 125 would cope but you should be fine, if your still worried about your battery then oxford do a set of "light" and "scooter" hot grips that draw less power ;)

OK, here's something which I really do know about. I have ridden through the winter for over twenty years and I have tried EVERYTHING to keep my hands warm. Heated grips, overmitts, you name it, I have tried it. I can guarantee that you will not do better than a pair of Gerbing heated gloves - they are simply the dog's.

Plenty of distributors GetGeared, Ebay...

Now, one thing they are not is cheap; but they are most definitely worth every penny. I use them, and both of my sons use them. As for whether they will run a 125's battery flat, not if it's a CBF125 and you are going a reasonable distance. The generator output is more than adequate, my youngest used his Gerbings every day (up until he changed it) on that exact same bike, no problems.

My pal in college bought them and says they're far better than Oxfords heated gloves!

Oops! This is the one specifically about the grips:

I wore my Summer gloves this morning. ;)

Just been having a look online and cant find anywhere to get those over grips for less than £50??? which ones have you seen for £10

Those will be the new ones. The older version ones don't have any heat level adjustments, like the ones pictured in my blog. If you can find anywhere with the old stock they'll be nice and cheap - but Ebay is your best bet.

Heated gloves are MUCH better than heated grips... seriously. You would be far better off spending the extra money. This is advice from someone who DOES ride all through the winter, in sub-zero temperatures, come rain or snow. Plus, you cannot transfer heated grips between bikes, can you!

Yes.

With the Oxford ones, undo the velcro on the grips, unclip cable ties as you trace it's wires back to the battery, unscrew from battery terminals. Done. I reckon 10 mins max - maybe 15 to put them back on again next Winter.

Not many people have got two bikes that they want to take out in Winter. I'll just wait until it's about 5 degrees or above to use my 9r!

I got heated grips installed in my Triumph Rocket......triumph branded.

They work awesome for me.

I am not into heated gloves....

Best regards

Yeah, fair enough - I forgot about those. It has to be REALLY cold before I choose not to ride my bike... I simply cannot face the thought of being in my car, in London rush hour traffic. After thirty something years of riding in all weather, and trying just about everything to stay warm, I do feel well positioned to comment!! I just uploaded a video a few minutes ago, which is on this subject. And partly as a result of this thread.

Yeah - tell me about it!

Bit of snow around today so I took the car for once... Over 2 hours to do the 25 min journey!

Back on the bike tomorrow, methinks!
