Harley Promoting Vlogging?

This is at my local dealership. Just came in.

I just returned from a State HOG Rally and was surprised at the amount of other Harley riders with cameras on their bikes or helmets. I thought I would be the odd one out but I was far from it.
 
I've seen other brands dealerships with cameras for sale but this is the first time at a harley dealer I've seen it.

I think times are changing. Glad to see it becoming the norm.
 
Too right. I wish I could go back to when I started riding and have started motovlogging / at least recording my riding for vlogs / me to look back on and reminisce etc.

That was one reason I started motovlogging - to capture some of the things I get up to for myself and others.
 
For a safety aspect, its brilliant, I think almost better than a hi vis suit

You as the rider know you shouldnt be racing around, and if something happens, hopefully the camera can prove who was at fault.

Agree. Even when I'm not vlogging my camera is running just for this reason alone.
 
my local shop doesn't have it. i can understand the reasoning though. old guys with a lot of money get their cruisers and want to see/show where they've been and what they've seen. what's a few more hundred dollars to someone who just bought a 25k bike? on the other side of the coin, they just released the Street line. younger guys want cameras for the same reasons. i'm surprised more dealers don't have them available.
 
Probably use them as a sweetner too. They've got to have reasonable margin in the camera so chucking in a £200 camera that cost them about £100 is nothing really.
 
In Germany they are selling them in many dealerships, too.

Won't work in Germany, though. We just had a court decision ruling that those recordings can't be used as evidence, because the recordings infringe with privacy issues due to recording people without asking them before doing so. Sometimes German laws are crazy o_O
 
The more cameras there are, the more they may consider it. If theybuse cameras in Police cars, it's not that big a step for the Police to use helmet footage.

Do they use CCTV footage from businesses to gather evidence?

Police is allowed to use video evidence when they are chasing you or when they noticed you doing something wrong. They're also allowed to use the footage from businesses.
The only evidence that isn't allowed is footage recorded by a private person. The law is really inconsistent!
 
That law makes no sense because you shouldn't need consent by people in public. If you are in a public place then you should just expect the possibility to be seen. I think it should only apply if you are directly speaking with someone who wants to be left alone.
 
I guess the law has also something to do with our conservative government and society (many Germans don't like change). Not long ago our chancellor stated that the internet is unknown territory for us Germans :confused: Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a backwards country, but I don't give up the hope for change!:)
