Ran into someone you really don't wanna find on the trails. Managed to get it all on video! I do not condone this type of behavior, I am not a good role model

I've got no idea what that was about.

All I can make out is you following some dude, after a bit you do a 180* then go back the way you came calling out "DEC" to a dude following you.

WTF?

DEC is department of environmental conservation, and that's an area where technically there's no riding allowed despite the trails existing for over 30 years(we tread lightly and dont leave any trash behind as well as quiet exhausts and spark arrestors). I put annotation where the DEC officer and his car were parked. The gopro wide angle makes him look farther away than he really was.

Their proll responding to the Unlicenced/unregistered riders?
Complaints from locals etc.
If u not breaking any laws they can go kiss a Toad....Check your local and national laws surrounding the use of vehicles off road, youll proll see that if u registered u can go wherever.

I wish that was the case. That land is state owned and the state(on Long island at least) does not want ANY motorized vehicles on their land. There's signs everywhere that says "no motorized vehicles". The only exception to this rule is trucks/4wd for hunters with a valid hunting license and a DEC access permit. We all have DEC access permits so our person(s) are allowed to be on the land, but our vehicles aren't. if we ever get caught we only get a ticket for the motorized vehicle but we don't get a trespassing ticket or anything else since all of our bikes are registered, insured and inspected. It's a risk we're all willing to take because they simply don't give us any other options.

Me and my friend have discussed how they should just charge a fee for a seasonal permit to operate on those trails, impose exhaust decibel/spark arrestor restrictions(we have FMF q4's or stock exhausts) and have a ranger that rides around to ensure everybody is following the rules. At least that way they would be making money and not be pissing off countless offroad enthusiasts. The DEC is a joke.

Lobby the councilmen??
Call thye council buildings/offices, find out how you can do your stuff legally?
I googled a bit on LongIsland parks laws, a little confusing their, maybe u need council member to 'interperate'?lol

Good luck

It's not worth wasting my time trying to change the laws when i can just ride and escape as necessary. This is a rare instance, i've only run into the DEC one other time in my offroading life(10+ years). We're super careful and know where they patrol the most. That day was the first nice snow free day we've had yet this season so we knew they were out patrolling just like they knew we'd be out riding. Right before we ran into him my buddy said "be careful, there could be DEC on this section" or something like that. It was in the video but you can't hear him on my mic.
