Gopro Warranty

Received a Hero4 as a gift, DOA out of box (never opened). Went through all the crap with their awful tech support (actually did it all on my own before hand and had to re-do it once I contacted warranty support). After all that they open a case to get it fixed then insist on a receipt or proof of purchase and the fact it was a gift means nothing. Contacted my family, no receipt since it was actually a re-gift, Gopro wants to offer me 20% off a camera with no fix for the Hero4...so now I have a paperweight and no camera. Anyone have better luck?

Damn that's some bs...

I know it would be not the most honorable thing to do, but you could buy one, return the broken one, tell them it didn't work and just get your money back. Tis an option!

They have serial numbers Josh. It can fool a lazy store employee, but what are the chances?

I don't know of any stores which log the numbers. Suppliers might know which batch went where though.

Is the number printed on the box?

Plus, it means buying a camera, the store may only offer an exchange or store credit. Depending on your local laws, a refund might not be required.

I don't own a GoPro, but my Drift Ghost S and Contour +2 both have the serial number on a sticker underneath the box, as well as on the camera itself. GoPro not so sure. Really depends on the store though, some will log using an RFID batch reader when they order from GoPro if they are an official retailer, so they too have all the serials in their database tagged to their SKU and Receipt Database.

But I believe it's a small store they only rely on receipts, so you can easily cheat them. Even if you only get an exchange or store credit, you are still getting a working camera now. Just either mount the extra somewhere else, or sell it off on the second hand market.

The ol Walmart bait and switch. Unfortunately this is a regular occurrence for me as many companies don't stand behind their products.
