HI,

I recorded a vlog with a Hero 9 on my helmet and a Max on my handlebars.
First of all both white balance were set to 5000 but are definitely not looking the same. One is colder and more green, other warmer and more red.

But what I distinctly saw was that the footage of the Max had a lot of noise and poor sharpness. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm including two random screenshots. the one of the street is the Hero9 and the one of me is the Max.
I did some color alterations, but only slightly. The quality of the footage is more what I'm trying worried about.

I used GoPro Player to export the Max files to ProRes so I can edit them in FCPX

On the Max, are you shooting it in 360 and rendering as 2D? That can look grainy.

Even shooting in 2D mine seems to not be as good as even my Hero4 Silver.

I indeed exported it in 2D Prores to edit in FCPX
Is there a better way to get it into FCPX?

The trouble is, your Hero is facing the sun, and the Max is facing away from it I'd imagine.

If you are keeping the Max pointing just at yourself, you are probably better running it in Hero mode with horizon levelling switched on, it records at a better quality when using it in single lens.

that would make the sun facing camera warmer and the away facing colder. But it’s the other way around.

not just at myself but I’m using the 360 mode as well.
Can’t upload a YouTube video in the members vlog area, otherwise you could see it :)

If it is fighting the bright sun, wont it drop its settings?
TBH, I just use auto everything as don't understand all the fancy bits :)

I have the same problem, but with a Hero 8 pointed at me. When the sun is behind me, it wreaks havoc on contrast and color. If you look at the color graphs on the rider view footage, I bet it shows a lot of red and not much else.

I'm not sure what's available in your software package, but Resolve has a Color tab where you can raise the shadows, boost the color, and drop the highlights a bit, then add just a tiny bit of overall brightness, which should fix most of the issues you're experiencing.

I know it's not the solution you want, but that'll fix the color. If you can lower the sharpness a bit, that should decrease the grain, too. I don't have a GP Max, but on the Hero 8 and 9, there's a Sharpness setting.
