Gopro Lament: I've Just About Had It With Them

I've had my Gopros for a while. Hero 4+ Silver, and Hero Session.

I loved the idea of the gopro: control from a phone app, uses wifi to connect to the app, and tons of accessories.

the truth of the GoPro has been nothing but trouble shooting, WiFi that NEVER works or pairs with the app, and unreliable performance. On top of that, the SENA BACKPACK is plagued with bugs, especially when you have your phone and the music and are trying to vlog. I've lost so much footage this way.

Anyone else just really pissed off with their GoPro and ready to try something else?

Gonna try and get my hero4+ replaced. the display on the front lost a couple lines without any drops or collisions, the mounts keep snapping, and the microphone adapter is expensive, and awful and I can't believe I can't find a reliable source for a 90 degree adapter. I'm ready to switch to the drift, but I love the picture from the gopro when it actually works. The battery life sucks too.

Ugh.

I never liked using the GoPro for anything except as a video cam on a selfie stick where I can constantly monitor it, that I can't when i'm on a bike.

It's fragile without a case, and crashes constantly, losing footage. The mic port is ridiculous since you need a proprietary mic or else use a mic with a relatively rarely used jack.

I instead went with the Drift Ghost-S instead for helmet mounted cameras, at least that has a 3.5mm jack. It originally had issues with crashing like the GoPro, but they fixed it in a recent firmware update.

I can't deny that the GoPro has fantastic video quality, but considering it's shape, I'd never use it as a helmet cam, and mount it on the bike only. But if I did that, I'd rather go with the DJI Osmo, that I already have considering it just beats the GoPro in every department as far as video quality is concerned.

I think it's ridiculously expensive for what it is and the accessories are extortionate! I have had some bloody stupid issues with mine which have made me miss out on some of the the best footage I've ever (not) recorded! A battery eliminator setup is a must if you want to record more that 20minutes, and yes the shape doesn't work well on a helmet creates drag (I've had it on the side and the top) can't wait for that Mohawk camera mic thing to come out so I can see if it's any good.

I use just the bare basics, power on, record, stop, power off. I don't use those Wi-Fi features, so I have no complaints.

I'm actually happy with mine. I've got a 3 and a 3+ and have only lost footage once (where it wasn't my fault). The WiFi always works for me, but the battery life isn't great with the WiFi on, so I will leave it off a lot of the time.

But, it sounds like you're really hard on the cameras if you're damaging displays and breaking comb mounts. I've personally seen a car roll over on top of a Hero 2 and the camera and mount literally creased the roof instead of breaking. Given, this was a BMW 2002, so not the most structurally sound vehicle ... lol

The form factor isn't great to slap on a helmet, but I'm okay with that for the video quality that I get from it.

Try the Drift, more than happy with mine, good sound, dont look as clumpy and image is on par with GoPro, oh and awesome customer service.

Biggest problem I have had with my GoPro 3 white is that the SD card needed a format once in a while, or the camera would crash when recording. No problems with wifi or anything yet.
Tried updating the firmware. Fairly simple, you just DL and place files on the SD and the camera does the rest when it boots up.

As far as accessories goes, yeah its pretty expensive, this is why the 3rd party accessory supply is great. Most of my extra gear is from Dealextreme. At the risk of bad quality.

The screen is def a problem that deserves complaints though. Wifi has been fine for me all the time.

I've got a 3+ Black, 2x HERO 2014's and a Hero 4 Session. No other brand has the form factor I need for the best mounting positions and I've had no problems with any of mine.

The only slight annoyance is needing an adapter for the mic, but that's it.

Ive got Hero 4 silver and been pretty impressed with what it does. Had a couple swapped after first buying as there is an internal rattle sadly the issue is still there just not as bad. I have to wrap a bit of tape around it to reduce it though. I do think they are a big rip off on price.

I paid £80 each for my HERO 2014's and just paid £110 for the Hero 4 Session.

The 3+ Black was a gift so I assume they paid full price.

I've had my Go Pro 3 + Black for about 2 years now, and I bought it used with a bunch of goodies. I personally have never had any bad experiences, but I have been witness to it demise at times. I love it not only because it is the camera used by professionals but because it has so many mounting options its a no brainer for me!
