Hey guys,

I could do with your advice here, my Hero 2 in 1080p ProTune set to Pal records hideous in low light. Now tell me, is it just me or do you guys avoid using yours in this combo? A few searches on google return either "Hero 3 is x2 better than hero2" or... "hero 2 is better than hero 1"... and nothing about vomit inducing quality.

I did a day-shot indoors a few minutes ago which is shady and aside from so much noise that it was nauseating, I also got reds instead of browns and an overall sense of visual vomit out of the Hero 2.

What do you guys do to overcome this poor quality?

I've done a few night vids on mine and the quality isn't great. Really grainy. Seen vids on youtube though and they look sharp, don't know how they do it.

I haven't done the update on my current Hero 2. The first Hero 2 I updated bricked wouldn't even turn on, had to take it back to the shop to get it replaced.

I have not done an update to mine either, for this reason. It seems you are taking a real gamble when doing any updates, many, many reports of killing the camera. The general consensus on the GoProUsers Forum seems to be, unless an update has a feature you need, don't do it.

The update is fine guys. The reason you're having this issue is because Protune doesn't remove noise automatically. Protune simply is a flat file, all filters and noise removal is not added to the video file in camera like it is normally. This allows content creators to adjust the noise removal and filters to their liking which can drastically improve video quality in post production.

With protune on you have to really get to know how your video editing software works and what features are available that can improve your videos. To someone like me protune is amazing, I can get the effect I really want on my video whilst at the same time improving the visual experience for anyone that watches.

Thanks for sharing your technique on overcoming the poor quality. I'll give that a go too.
