Fz6r Rage!

So, I went to give my baby Quinn her second oil change today. I would've been done in about fifteen minutes flat...and then....the oil filter wouldn't come off, I sat there battering on this damn thing for about an hour or so before I started stabbing it with screwdrivers.

Anyone else have better luck with this bike and taking off the filter? I did a little bit of googling and I'm not the only one that had issues.

Pic is relevant, rage is real.

I had the same issue last time I changed the oil on my FZS. Just used a bigger screwdriver (and got oil everywhere).

To avoid it in future, I got the K&N filter with the hex bolt welded on the front so I could undo it with a ring spanner. From a distance. Without getting covered in oil. Without sweating. No swearing required.

AndyManCam, I still don't believe you could do it without some kind of remark. Probably along the lines of a vicar and a lady of the night!

Wow @Syntaxxor !! What did you do it up with? A JCB?! It's only supposed to nipped on, slightly more than finger tight. The big rubber gasket stops it from vibrating off.

There actually was a LOT of remarking during my last oil change @C&C . The sump plug fell out and blocked the hole of my handy oil collecting drain bottle. So the funnel section filled up faster than an octegenarians bladder at bedtime and I was left with a rapidly spreading oil slick on my works warehouse floor!

Lesson, use a closed ended tool to undo the sump plug, like a ratchet and socket. NOT a ring spanner!

that same thing happened to my sump plug. piece of shit ... and i always change it when the oils hot, it burnt me bad

As for the filter, I have a fz6, local tool shop had some filter "sockets" , like a socket, just lots bigger (and thinner)

That's why I dropped mine. My hands were WELL out of the way of the hot oil. I even tied a piece of string around it so I could pull it away as soon as it was loose. But that didn't work!!

Ratchet, went decently tight, I was advised to do so. On my Bandit S600, I hand tightened them, and it came loose once, and then never again; but on this bike I was told to ratchet it. On the next oil change I won't do it so tight, so in 3000 miles I might have another rage thread to create lol

I suppose getting angry every 3000 miles is always preferable to having your oil filter jump into the road with your oil following swiftly afterwards!!

I only used to change the oil every 6000 on my Fazer. At 61k it was still as sweet as a nut!

Andy, I demand more videos of you messing up your diy. The self depreciating sarcastic Brit in me loves those videos.

It's coming! I've had to do a little bit of servicing on the new bike. So it's in the pipeline!
