Fuelly ?

Hi !

i see alot of people using fuelly and had a question to ask about it

so heres the example

i see i have say half a litre left so i pull into a petrol station to fill my tank up to full.

say for example i fill up 4 litres and next time i fill up i have only used 3.5 litres of that , will they recognise that ? or will they think i've used them 4 litres to get say 80 miles instead of thinking that the 3.5 got me 80 miles

probably seems very complicated but if you can understand id be very grateful to have an answer

I can't work out what you mean :?

Fuelly works fine as long as you fill-up the tank completely every time you stop for fuel. It doesn't matter if the tank isn't empty when you fill-up, as long as the tank is completely filled.

Well no, it goes by how much fuel you purchase and how much distance you covered on your vehicle. All it does is calculate that you travelled X distance and used up Y fuel... and figures out the fuel economy based on that.

You need to start from a full tank. In other words, the next time you KNOW you're full (at the petrol station) reset you're trip-meter. Then, when you get your NEXT fill up, you'll know how many miles you've gone on how many gallons/liters you've used. THAT is your FIRST Fuelly entry.

For example, I filled up completely to the bottom of the ring of my filler pipe. Then I rode 200 miles (to my surprise! I expected to only get 180 miles MAX) and added X amount of gallons, which also filled up the tank to the bottom of the pipe. Then I opened up the Fuelly app and entered 200 miles at X gallons and Fuelly did the math for me. Easy enough?

Your tank size means nothing to mileage (aka miles gallon, NOT miles per tank.) In other words, a 5 gallon tank on a bike that gets 40 mpg is no different than a 10 gallon tank on a bike that gets 40 mpg EXCEPT the 10 gallon tank will get you twice as far down the road AT THE SAME RATE. 5 gallons at 40 mpg = 200 miles per tank and 10 gallons at 40mpg gets you 400 miles per tank. Fuelly calculates mpg, not mpt.

I have a trip meter, I reset it when I fill up. Then next time I fill up, I convert the litres to gallons (cos even though I was only taught metric in school, miles per litre does my head in) and divide the gallons into the miles to find my miles per gallon.

After I've done this a few times, in differnt conditions, i.e off road, or thrashing it a bit, I don't bother anymore, I just keep an eye on my trip meter, as I trust them more than fuel gauges.

Yes. Fuelly is nothing more than a calculator. You do have to be sure you fill the tank completely every time though.
