Hey guys, im away to start riding a honda xr 125 and i realised that there is no fuel gauge on the bike. Im just wondering if anyone knows of any tips to tell how much fuel i'll have left or how long it'll last me. Sorry for the nooby questions haha :D

Simples, use your trip meter. Reset it when you fill up and wait till you hit the reserve tank, check it and you will have an idea of how far you can go on one tank, obviously this will change depending on your riding style but it's the best way to keep track. Your reserve tank should have enough for 10 to 20 miles of riding, so plenty to find a fuel station.

Hope that helps :)

Okay thanks. How do i reset my trip meter ? Lol and im not sure if i have a reserve tank and if so, how do i know once ive hit it? and again, sorry for the nooby questions haha :)

You should have a small button of some sort near your display, on my YZF-R125 you just click it once to go to 'trip 1' then hold it down untill it resets to 0

Hope this helps

You'll have to check your manual for all that, it's different on every bike

I had an xr 125 before I passed my test! I got about 150 miles out of my tank.... If its the same as mine on the left hand side of the speedo should be a knob/dial thingy turn that and it'll roll the trip up till it goes back to 0.
And for your reserve you should have it on the left hand side where the choke switch is, it should be roughly where you knee would be when riding or a touch lower. Mine was an 07 model I don't know if they changed them much over the years.

I dont have a gauge either, i just open the fuel cap and have a peek with a torch everytime i finish a ride lol then if i think im getting low, i top up next time

ah, you get to master the dying art of 125cc fiddling for reserve lever between gear changes without stalling :D

If it doesn't have a fuel gauge then it should have a reserve tap. You leave it on the "on" position, when the bike starts to splutter switch the tap to "reserve" should have 10-20 miles to find fuel. Could be less though.

Don't use a cigarette lighter or a match to do this! ;)

Now thats just silly :P

IF you don't have a gauge you will either have a reserve (look on the petrol tap it will have ON RES and OFF (or if its vacuum like mine ON RES and PRI) if not when you get to reserve a little fuel light on your dash will light up you then have 10-20 miles to fill up!

Find a manual for your bike online somewhere and read it. I reset my tripometer as mentioned each time I fill up and I'll get about 130 before the fuel light starts blinking at me. From there I can get about another 50 miles (I know because I ran out on the M25 once trying to make it to a cheaper petrol garage) (point offence by the way) albeit it's a two stage light so I had plenty of warning! 180 is good going on mine.

Worst case, take a jerry can with you and keep going till you konk out. Then you'll know!

Okay dokes. Thanks for all your help. Was up today and found the reserve tap and also how to reset the tripeter. Now just to get a good fitting top box!! And again thanks for your help !
