First Motorcycle Crash?

It's no different to riding yourself.

Cars are much safer, more comfortable and practical. So why do you take the risks of riding? Because of the thrill, it makes you feel alive and that's worth the risk.

the first time i crashed was making a U turn in a parking lot while it was pouring, and my back tire skid and slamed into a parked car haha the i dropped the bike right before hitting the car, but thankgod nobody was hurt and nothing was dammaged

About 6 months into riding I wiped out while crossing parallel wet tram tracks. I wasn't going too fast, probably somewhere between 50-60km/h. Took me ages to get myself to cross tram tracks again, even on dry, sunny days. Sucks though, Melbourne is full of tram tracks. Nowadays if it's cold and/or wet I just slow down as much as possible before crossing them.

Tracks are slick as hell in the rain, we got alot of railroad crossings here and they are almost always at an angle to road. I've slipped on em a bunch of times but I'm waiting for one to take the wheels out from under me

I think as long as you keep a constant speed, make sure you're travelling in a straight line and not going too fast, you should be fine. Oh and make sure you brake/slow down before - not while - you cross them!

I've managed to drop my SV :/

Short story: I was doing some work on a building site for some extra dough, this site was about 2 hours ride into London. Site work involves being at the site for 7am.
So I was getting up at about 4:30am and hitting the road at 5am, it's still pitch black out there at this time of the morning.

This particular morning it was also raining, I had a crap nights sleep as well so that wasn't going to help! I set off anyway, I didn't have my pinlock installed, not enough time.

So here I am, on my bike at 5am in the pissing rain, I'm tired, I can't see jack shit because my visor is completely fogged up and I'm riding down pitch black country lanes and backroads so I'm only doing about 20-25mph.

My front wheel hits a metal drain cover and slips to the left, my knee jerk reaction is to slam on the rear brake (duh) and that kicks the rear out to the right, I sort of powerslide down the road about 5 or so meters before coming to a stop. The bike was at a very steep angle that I couldn't hold up so I dropped it onto my left leg. Adrenaline took over and I yanked the bike back up as soon as I freed my leg. Doing so managed to tweak a few muscles in my back :/

All in all the damage was incredibly superficial, minor scratches on the wing mirror, left frame slider and rear left indicator and a minor scuff to the front fairing (which I want to get rid of anyway)

I decided not to go into work after that. I was only 3 miles from home at this point with about 55 miles remaining... f*** that shit.

wow sounds like a bad day. you gotta watch out for anything metal on the road, even when its dry i go over metal stuff, like drain covers or rail tracks, real slow lol, because fuck that...also you gotta watch out for any road paint when its wet, i've nearly slipped on that a bunch of times before

The conditions were definitely working against me.

Hell even a badly placed drain cover can cause you to bin it. I'm glad the white lines overhear have grit mixed with the paint, coz they are pretty slippery to.

Not dropped any big bikes. Last bike I dropped was when I was 16. The chain off my '50' came off and locked up the rear wheel.

Was always dropping my 125's on the fields

I've dropped my bike a couple of times when I was first getting used to riding, but I haven't had a full-on, potentially life-threatening accident.

nearly lost it tonight, Stationary, stood up trying to pull up my trousers and lost my footing, thank good I was near a wall I could grab >_<

It doesn't seem to help, especially at bus stops.

I got confirmation that my SV650S has been written off :(

Havent had my first crash yet but plan to record all my rides so that I will be able to share it when it happens.
