Finally getting somewhere with these videos

So I've had offers in the past to do a vid for a product, but I follow the links and they are scams. Or I'm sure it's a legit product but I'd have to do a vid on a crappy product in exchange for a small percentage of sales. Some of these companies now want me to buy the product and provide me with an affiliate link, no thanks.

I wasn't sure if this latest one was legit but I followed it through. I got an email from a company that advertises for Napa. I sent a vid, then they gave me a list of things to pick from. From waxes, to brake clean, brake pads, I ended up picking a battery jumper pack. Funny thing, I got a call from one of the local stores to pick it up. I'm not sure who the people in the store thought I was but it kinda felt like a big deal. My wife says they'll be sorry, my audience is so small. I spent a couple hours doing a vid and edit, now I just hope it gets viewed. I've already killed it on the tags and have it on the first page of a google vid and a youtube search, I'm at least good at titles, description and tagging.

Oh well, I'm going to keep at it. Hopefully there will be more opportunity in the future. I've set up a Sena FB group hoping for some bluetooth intercom swag someday, lol. I'd love to be a product tester for them.

To everyone else here, keep plugging away at it!

Do car peeps use the helmet comms stuff then? Or is it a bike related FB group?

Awesome you have gotten a chance to review a product that you'll use with the battery booster pack, I imagine in winter that could be a really handy product too! :-)

It’s a bike group, there is a strong focus on audio/video. I haven’t found a use for a Sena in a car, yet. The other reason for having this “Sena Users Group” is because the other main FB group was formed as the Sena haters group. The admin does nothing except occasionally bash the product. The group is that size only because it was there first.

Been motorcycle blogging, with a b, since 2009.

First you get free junk.
Then you get free good stuff.
Then you become a go-to guy for people with good stuff.
Then the people with good stuff start to pay you to create for them.
Then you can start just reaching out to people who've never heard of you and getting free stuff.

I wasted too much time on the free junk level. In hindsight, I should have done what you did and only opted for free good stuff or nothing at all.

Nowadays people email me and I just say oh no thank you. Your time and health are the most valuable things. Don't waste them on junk. Booster pack is definitely cool though. I got one that I need to review this winter that's a booster and a tire inflater. The toys we get these days are pretty cool.

I've turned down a few of these type offers over the past year. I know people like doing them and can make some decent money from it. Personally I'm not very interested in making commercials for other people's products, I just want to make the videos I want to make. Maybe I'm odd! :p

You got it right man! The problem is that too many people see it as making a commercial for other people's products - and then they wonder why they aren't getting subscribers lol.

There's nothing wrong with taking a product to review, but tell people, and if it sucks, tell them, "Hey everyone, today I'll be reviewing this product, and I'll let you know the top 5 reasons why it sucks!" lol

Unfortunately, many won't do this.

We talk a lot in society about how governments need to remember what put them in power, not the big companies out there, but all of the little people who voted for them.

The same thing goes with reviews. The companies aren't what make a channel big, it's the audience. People need to remember who it is they're trying to serve: Some will make youtube vidoes for profit (or hopes of it), some will make videos for themselves, some will do it passion.

  • If you put the dollars ahead of your audience, they'll see through it, distrust you, and won't follow you or will unsubscribe if they previously followed you.
  • If you put your own interests ahead of your audience, some may not care about what you're doing, but some will dig it and come along for the ride, and that's okay, because you're doing it as a hobby so it's all good.
  • If you put your passion into it, your audience will see that. If they're feeling it, they'll appreciate you for it.
I'm getting a product to review arriving Friday. If it sucks ass, don't you worry, I'll let you know lol

That's almost like negging :P Luring people in with the negative, like news stations, but then hitting them with the fact that the product really has very few flaws.
