Extreme Road Rage - Thoughts?

So we had a discussion recently about a group of bikers, raging against one cager in the UK. It was an interesting discussion as lots of people had different views and it made for a great debate.

Now this video has come to my attention

This whole video is fucking insane to the last minute or so, so watch the whole thing

Yep seen that one, The guy is a fking lunatic and should have his license revoked.

He is or should be up for assault no doubt, but we don't know the lead up to this behaviour, what did the fairly large group of bikers do to provoke this? If in fact they did do anything to provoke it, if not, he shouldn't be on the road.

Me? I would've cut off and gone my way, we don't have steel cages surrounding us. That, or call in the cops and lay some charges, or follow him and deal with it off the road. No way I'm provoking a cager from the back of a bike.

Most of the videos I see like this, it seems that both sides are in the wrong....driver might make a mistake like follow a bit too close (when he's already surrounded by bikers), this causes the bikers to overreact and start taunting the car...unfortunately in this video it looks like the driver gets fed up and literally tries to knock them off their bikes at hwy speeds.

Obviously the driver has issues as he doesn't seem to care about killing another motorist, but at the same time the bikers don't really do much to try and diffuse the situation.

Putting my self in the drivers shoes, I'd be pretty scared with +10 bikers chasing me, I might act irrationally

I'm with Brasi. If I was in that situation i'd take the registration of the car and my incriminating footage and deposit in the lap of my friendly neighbourhood policeman.

Instead these guys do all sorts of stupid stuff breaking laws of their own and putting themselves at just as much risk of prosecution as the driver!

Plus it all escalated because they were harassing the driver. Now there is NO excuse for ramming a bike on purpose with a car (maybe if it was a Slavering motorcycle riding zombie, but that's a different scenario), but that wouldn't have happened if they'd all backed off and left the maniac alone.

After all, if that guy HAD come off his bike, it would have been a totally avoidable accident.

It's all about self preservation people! You don't wrestle a wrestler, you don't box a boxer and you don't play demolition derby with a 2 ton steel box! Bikes are good for catching up FAST. And for getting away FAST. In the confrontational middle ground, they're absolute toilet!!

Hadn't seen this before. But the video is edited to make it look appear the fault of the driver - who was a lunatic - but the bikers looked like lunatics out to cause problems too (eg purposefully baiting, purposefully trying to overtake with one foot distance in the same lane, with a driver thinking possibly they are going to smash a crow bar into the window).

In essence, both looked like they wanted to keep it going! Which I find unbelievable from being on two wheels, but then the driver is on his own so why? Knock a biker off when the rest of the gang are there to put you in a coffin? WTF?!

But what happened beforehand, and what has been edited out?

It's a bit like that massive 4*4 in NYC who was surrounded and felt his only option with his kids in the car was to get away, even if it meant driving over the top of someone. We get all uppity because we are more vulnerable, but fear and adrenaline makes us all do stupid things, especially if we feel our lives are in danger.

That's why I like following stupid dangerous drivers and catching them up when they are stationary, then possibly flipping them the bird or having a word, but not while traffic is freeflowing, cos I'm the one in danger then

But if you were in a car surrounded by bikers who looked like they really wanted to do some serious damage to you if you stopped, what would you do? Irrespective of how badly you may have previously behaved?

If in fact they did do anything to provoke it, if not, he shouldn't be on the road.

Even if they would have provoked him, that's no excuse for engangering a life.
We all know there are idiots on the road, on bikes and cars. Everybody with a drivers license should be able to ignore provoking behaviour, and just take another road or call the police if necessary.
I have no sympathy for the car driver, but I have no sympathy for the bikers either. You can see they ride aggressive, and it seems to me like the group wouldnt let go of the car, provoking the whole incident to escalate. Not sure if a biker-mob like that is good to ride on public roads either...

What I'm saying is that in court the "reasonable man" argument would stand up to scrutiny. He believed he was under threat of violence from a gang of bikers, he defended himself with the only weapon at his disposal, his car. What I'm also saying is that many a balanced, reasonable man would react exactly the same if provoked similarly. Also, we have one camera and at least 10 bikes, what's happening off camera that we don't see which prompts his "unprovoked" attack on the bikes?
