External mic for Sony CG10 or an alternative camera?

I'm currently using either my CG 10 or my Samsung Galaxy S2 to shoot my videos. So far my vids have been of me working on a bike or working on part of a bike, I would love to attach my Sony CG 10 to my bike somehow to do an actual riding vlog. The only problem with that is the sound, because it has no external mic all you would get is a whole bunch of wind noise.

I cant afford a go pro or drift or anything fancy like that at the moment so does anyone have any idea if an external mic is available, has anyone had any success with jury rigging one in the past or do I need to buy a new camera?

If I do need to buy a new one, can anyone give any suggestions as to cheap mounted cams that will have an external mic?

I never jerry-rigged my CG10 for an external mic...I'm not sure it can be done easily either. The best idea for you to get better sound is probably really covering your mic ports on the camera to cut down on the wind noise. I'm not sure exactly what works well..but you could always experiment.

If you want sound from another part of your bike...maybe a cheap sound recorder from eBay for like $30 would do, and just isolate the microphone so it's not picking up so much wind noise. Those would be good strapping near the back of your bike to get some nice exhaust notes as your riding. But you would need to piece the two tracks together in video editing.

But I would suggest wrapping cloth around the mic ports or something on your CG10 to see if you can improve your sound quality. Just experiment. Wouldn't try hacking into the camera itself though unless you know what you're doing.

I know not everyone has the money for a action camera, but I couldn't think of anything worse then putting a phone or camera not built for the job on a bike.

The biggest problems are obviously mounting it, weather proofing and quality. The options you mentioned do not seem very robust to take the bumps and vibrations of the bike and that alone could cause internal damage.

By putting $10-50 month back, you could save yourself a lot of money on having to replace the broken phone/camera if it fell off or became wet and 5 months at $50 is already $300.

Well that's my opinion.
