Hi guys,

So it's very likey that I'm handing in my resignation at work today.

I've decided that 11 years in IT is about all I can take and am transitioning into Tool and Mold making.

I'm submitting a counter-offer to the company that is offering an apprenticeship because what they are offering me is a bit too substantial a pay cut, but since it would be short term I'm probably not going to fight it too hard, as an increase is likely coming in a month and a half.

I'm typically pretty nomadic in a lot of things but starting a new job always gives me that new and exciting feeling with a little bit scary. Sort of like the first time cresting that first drop in a roller coaster you've been on line for for an hour.

Thanks, I have high hopes for the future. Just after posting (I was in the loo), I called and made my counter, which I'd balanced as both reasonable pay cut mitigation and still a bargain price for my time

She seemed pretty receptive but the person who can approve it is in a meeting, so now I'm waiting. She said that in the pre-screening testing for the apprenticeship, I scored top three.

I was really good at this stuff in high school, but unfortunately never pursued it, and allowed my early post secondary life to spiral downward into depression, drugs and homelessness at times. It took me a while to adapt and accept the world and it's realities (and a major shift in world view). After my daughter was born, I knew I had to shape up fast.

So I officially accepted the position and gave my notice today. The band-aid is off.

Funny story. When I was a teenager I listened to ICP...not obsessively but they were still at the level where they held some novelty and their songs were shocking enough for me to find funny.

After not listenin to them for almost a decade. I downloaded their collection and tried getting through it. I was in a band at the time and my singer mentioned liking the song Superballs.

I didn't start using it until years after I relegated ICP as a bunch of monorhythmic idiots. But still loved the name and felt it was suited to me, given that I'm normally not one to back down from an argument, online or IRL.

I'm like Ben Shapiro bit a lot dumber

I tested top 5 of all the candidates which eases my mind a bit.

It is nerve-wracking but not the craziest thing I've ever done.

I think having two trades with competency and experience in both will be more useful in the long run. Especially in a turbulent economy.
