Hey people.

I'm writing this to tell you that I won't be active in the meets for a while.

Yesterday at around 2:30pm, I was travelling along 'West Road/A281" near Devils Dyke..

I was going around 70MPH.. I had my GF of two weeks on the back..

Over a blind hill and there was a sharp corner..

Straight off a 7ft drop into the field at 70..

Yeah.. Totalled bike.. GF just had an Operation.. And i'm on crotches..

Sooo... Yeah.. Might be a while before i'm a bit more active... Apologies..

Photos to follow..

:)

oooh, ouch! What was the operation for? Is it serious or just putting bones back to where they should be?
Hope you both heal quickly!
I came off with a twisted ankle.. 4cm more and It would have snapped clean off with 50/50 chance of repair.

She flipped a few times. and landed on her bum, which then pushed her left rib down into her Spleen, crushing it into pieces.

I've changed her life now..

Pills for 5-10 years to avoid the general cold..

=[

I feel for you I do & I don't want this to sound bad but, your GF of only 2 weeks and you where doing 70 down an A road with her?

I don't know if she's had riding experiance or if you where trying to take the corner at your normal speed. But man you have to compensate for the pillion, they fight you more than you think, your not going to make a turn if she chooses not to lean with you.

I wish you both a speedy recovery & I hope your back on the bike sooner rather than later. Take it easy.

Really great timing azzer. (sarcasm)

Sorry to hear this mate. Excuse the cliche, but these things happen, don't feel to guilty over it. Hope you get back on your feet, and the bike soon :).

Photos to follow? I wouldn't be proud enough of the moment I just shattered someones spleen and I don't think I would be posting it on a forum either :S I hope she gets well soon.

I used to be a South Down's ranger many years ago, and often walked from the top of Shoreham-by-Sea across to Devil's Dyke, and of course, rode motorbikes all around the downs in West and East Sussex. Some nasty drops around those parts. Ouch.

For once i agree with AZZ3R, this is not the time of year to be doing those kinds of speeds on A roads, especially ones (it sounds like, correct me if i'm wrong) that you don't know and with someone elses life to look after.

I'd be ok with ruining mine, but i'm not sure i could live with harming someone else.

It is harsh yeah, but it's the truth, and i'm sure that's all already gone through your mind.

Best of wishes for a speedy recovery from the both of you, dust yourselves off, learn and move on :)

I'm only saying what I think, I know what it feels like to go down, & go down hard, I've had my fibular snap in 2 places through my boots but you wouldn't know what that felt like.

& I also know how hard it is to be & pillion somone at those speeds. But I'm not going to argue with you over what I think was a daft thing to do, everyone is different.

I wish both of them a speedy recovery.

I wasn't disagreeing with your point mate, just thought he probably feels bad all ready, with out all of us pointing it out where he went wrong.

Yeah, fair point. Sorry if it did sound worse.

hope you and your GF have a speedy recovery rather have pills for 5-10 years than be dead, so don't blame yourself too much. best wishes to all of you

AZZ3R has a point lol.

I wouldn't do 70mph with the current road conditions even if it was just me on the bike lol

Hope things get better for you DJ_Xenobot,

Wow that's not funny mate, I know how bad I would feel if I came off with someone on the back.

It could have been much worse though mate so I hope you both recover soon.

To be honest its not the 70mph that is the problem, the problem is not slowing down for a potential hazard, if i see a blind hill I slow down because it could hide many things, for all i know there could be a car overtaking or a tractor turning over the hill, just think when you are riding, speed doesn't kill but you have to be smart while using it.

*speeding doesn't kill, its the stopping that attracts death
I agree about the blind hill, there are a few around here that have a junction just after the crest of a hill, so god knows who could be turning into your path.. But lets not turn this into a pointing fingers thread.

As I said before, hope you get better soon, and back on the bike as soon as poss.
Forgive me if its a sore area, but are you and the gf still together?

To be honest its not the 70mph that is the problem,

I'm happy doing 70+ on twisty country roads having a blast, but whats the problem is 70mph in January. We don't get the good enough weather untill mid April/ May.

Tyres - Will never get hot enough
Roads - Usually wet, crap from winter & Oil

Now I'm not saying he didn't but.

You have to re-adjust the tyre pressure when having a pillion
You may have to alter the rear shock, quite possibly the front for braking (if your bike allows you too)

(I know I'm stating the ovbious, and I know that some people do these checks. But some people don't & spending that extra 30minutes just checking there all ok is worth the time.)

But, it's January, conditions are not suitable for 'fun' riding. People get their kicks out of going fast in a straight line, I get mine out of the Track, twisty & technical roads. But I won't go to them roads untill, weather is nicer/warmer, tyres getting hot enough to grip & debri on the roads is clear. Which won't be untill April/May time.

Yes braking is a major fact but, people don't use a bike to their full capabilitys, their too scared too lean, or tip in last minute. Everyones heard of the saying, "If you fixate on something, you will hit it."

Braking is done before the corner, so if brakes are used while in the corner. You've either gone in too hot or taken the wrong line through the corner.
Another reason why I wouldn't push the bike untill the weather is right.

Nothing above is aimed at anyone, it's just a general overhaul of riding this time of year.
