Ok I admit it... The VIO POV HD sucks the big wet wobbly one. I will admit I not had any problems with it but it is just massive pain in the ass to set up and the sound quality is pants. So my fellow motovloggers and camera users I ask you for your advice. What camera is best? I want to use it for daily commuting and also have an external mic input for vlogging.I have been looking at the go pro as the quality seems the best but I have hear that the battery life is sh1t. So what is the best camera? I know premises187 uses a contour and I have heard that they corrupt files. I have also heard that the drift is a bit tempremental and can also just die. I also want one that has good quality at night. So far I believe the pov has the best night footage.

Thoughts?

I personally use and like the contour. Why? Primarily because of the bullet shape and size over the competition. You still can have many mounting options and great footage so I don't see that being an issue.

I have never had corruption issues with the contour and honestly I seem to read about more issues with the other cameras out there. As for the mic problem? Just use a dictaphone with a nice external mic and sync them together.

Night footage is not fantastic, but it does the job well enough for me. I have no complaints with my contour, it's had loads of use in all conditions and the battery still holds a nice charge, has not rusted (with the exception of the tiny lense cover screw.

I am currently using the Drift HD (not the 170 stealth) and the quality is good, not sure on night footage yet as Haven't taken it out although the video sizes at 1080p are coming in at around the 6-7gig mark for an hour commute >.< Battery life is also only around 2 hours which is pretty crappy all things considered.

Drift also makes an extended life battery which seems to last a very very long time.

Of course it does, but that's because the rest of the camera doesn't use that much power while it's malfunctioning. :)

I dunno if I told you about the file corrupting. If I did then it was because I had a cheapo 16GB card.
I think it had issues keeping up with the data rate. Been using a Samsung Ultra Mobile 32GB for the last 6months and it has been faultless.

Also yeah, I too have read a few topics about broken Drifts.

CycleGaz uses a ContourROAM which has a feature called auto metering which basically gives the best lighting adjustments on the fly. The ContourHD1080 doesn't have this.

Bullet cameras for the win. I personally feel the GoPro looks too dorkus-malorkus. :D

Ha ha! Wanker! :P

For me it was an easy choice...the Go Pro HD Hero 2 with the front helmet mount. The reason is, I really wanted a chinbar, centered mount for my front-facing camera, and nothing else would do. I didn't want a side-helmet mount, or a windscreen mount, etc. So, the GoPro's form-factor for me made this possible.

Now, I have two GoPros with the remote and WiFi Bacpacs for each, so with one button I can start and stop both cameras. Pretty cool! Still working on a better rear-facing mount though since the first one is too shaky. Might try some other angles too, like up at my helmet.

It'll be interesting to see cameras get smaller too! :D

I replaced my Drift HD170 with a GoPro HD Hero2... never looking back. The Hero2 is superior in every way to the Drift EXCEPT for aerodynamics... but you don't even feel the GoPro on the side. I have been getting well over 2 hours record time on my Hero2 so far so the battery life exceeds the stock Drift battery life. Once you add the extended battery as well then nothing can beat the total battery life.
