Back when I was serving in the US Army, we did this weird thing working out. Every so often we would strap on our Kevlar helmets and just wear them while doing flutter kicks, push-ups, or just hurrying up and waiting. I could not figure out why?

Then someone explained it was condition our neck muscles.

So how does this relate to what we do? Think about how a fullface helmet with camera feels vs. not wearing one. Now a rider may not notice any discomfort from riding a couple of hours every now and then or daily commuting but if you are going to be going on longer rides, that neck is going to be getting a workout. Basically without conditioning then it would be like from going for a light jog to your bike every few days to running a marathon.

So, do you condition your neck by just strapping on your helmet and then go about your day doing whatever for a few hours or more?

LOL, can't say other than to test a camera setup or to try on a new lid that I have worn it about the house for any period of time! :-D
I've nearly always had naked bikes, so have just dealt with the forces on my neck by riding.

I am glad it is just the bike that is naked...

Seriously though. What is you normal distance for a ride?

We have a "counter balance" on our kevlar helmets, to fight the offset of balance from our night vision goggles, and just having that on my helmet at work is enough of a neck workout for my bike helmet

I don't have a camera on my helmet, but I can't say I felt any fatigue in my neck, during the last trip. Longer days were maybe 4-5 times longer than my average riding day.
It's the butt that takes the... well... I can't come up with a metaphor right now, that would not have a sexual undertone. I'll get back to that.

If trail riding, we'll normally be out for around 5 or 6 hours all in, mileage will be low due to the trails. On tarmac rides, I currently keep them around 4 hours max including a stop for food, but have done a 650 mile round trip for "lunch" a few years back on my V7... that was a killer... my butt and neck were aching after that one for a good few days.

That's a good thing to do, @R-Rated ! I do not do this, and it shows whenever I ride my KZ or Bobber - my neck is definitely strained, what with the GoPro hanging off the side of my helmet! My half helmet is light, and when riding my Harley [with fairing and windshield], I hardly notice it, but it's a real drag [pun intended] when on the other bikes.

After reading this, I think I should try doing some extra workouts for my neck!

I think squats, pullups, and deadlifts do more to condition my neck than any helmet exercises would. Or simply riding more motorcycle miles with the helmet on! :D
