OK so I got a quote of Bennetts and it was £489 for a Sv650s. I then say oh and its restricted cause it's the law, they then so ahhh well we cant insure you.

Do I need to tell my insurer I am restricted or not, surely they should already know with me age.

ALWAYS tell them. Some insurers (such as CIA and MCE) know already because of your DOB and the date you passed your test. Others don't apply common sense and do not seem to understand that a restrictor is a legal requirement and not a modification. I mentioned it to CIA when I was about to buy my insurance and I was bricking it, but it was worth it in the end if only for peace of mind. Either way, Bennets are known to be a pain with restricted bikes!

Just had another quote for £595. Didn't tell them I had a restrictor on GoCompare. Rang them and I said the bike will be restricted Due to my license, the lady says yes that's fine so long as your are driving with in obeying your license restrictions. There will be no extra charge.

Shame it is more expensive, but better to be fully insured in my opinion.

PS. I find 'More Than' and 'The Bike Insurer' to be the best comparison sites for insurance ;)

Never even thought of them two. Thanks ill go look now.

You want to tell the insurance company about pretty much -everything- you do that modifies the amount of power that engine can put out. If you hide something, get in a wreck, and they find out there's a chance they can hold you in a form of breech of contract and not cover a damn thing.

Nope £595 is the cheapest I'll just go with that.

£595 isn't a bad deal, just a tad less than I paid for the Fazer. I assume the SV is ready to go now, enjoy!

Congratulations on passing the test by the way :)

Thanks. Yep I pretty much need to pick her up from guy. It comes with an Alarm and Immobiliser

Sounds like a good deal, one of the major expenses is already paid for!

That's what every good insurer should say, no reason to charge you more just because you're riding a slower bike.
