It happens occasionally... I see people query why some seemingly ordinary motovloggers get tonnes of subs while some amazing ones get very few. It made me think about it more when poor old Ness posted on his facebook that he was fed up... how he puts heaps of effort into his videos and is seemingly getting nowhere. And people like Everide have bugger all sub counts.

Well, I have a theory. Demographics. The answer, without asking 100,000+ sub motovloggers directly, has come from all these fanmail videos. Look who writes in... 10 to 16 year olds. Im thinking that any motovlogger with over 100k subs probably has a very young demographic... thats where the youtube audience is.

So, to the threads that have queried quick rises to fame, Im thinking these guys are probably pretty smart and have targeted the right audience.... 13 to 17 year olds. I'd love to know if their google analytics demographics graph says as much.

What do you think? What does your demographics graph look like?

I would strongly have to agree with you. 13-17 seems to be the age at which vulgarity or troll faces have the most affect. Not saying that I don't love the troll faces, just stating that you are correct, maybe they have targeted their audiences correctly. Or maybe they just got shoutouts. Yea, probably the shoutouts

I think your probably right nerb, Not sure how to post a pic of mine but I had 12% aus and 7.6% usa in the 13-17 bracket so does the mean I might get close to 100,000 subs!!!!hahaha
All I know is maybe these kids like swearing cause I seem to swear alot.....Might have to try and stop that shit oops there I go again.

No, I think you need 30 or 40% on 13-17

End of the day, it depends what's your intention, I guess. You can try (or fake it) to be hip and cool just to draw in the certain majority crowd, or just be yourself and draw like minded subs.

Not saying one or the other is wrong or right, it's just up to you.

If you WANT a BIG audience though, you cant just be yourself. You have to make a show.
My example is Walteriffic - 212k subs in a short time - has deliberately targeted the younger audience. He has lego on his helmet, seeks out puppies and actively encourages fanmail and audience interaction. I dont think he is being fake. It is his personality, but he chooses to make videos a particular way because he wants to make it a business. And its paying off! I bet he has 30% or more under 17.

I am not saying this is a bad thing... in fact it is a great thing. It is youtube being used to its potential.

I definitely think you're right. I'd love to see doitwithdan's demographics, I've never seen channel growth like his before.
My channel seems to have a funny jump in the 13-17 New Zealand bracket.

I watch bakerXderek's mail call vids and he gets a lot of young pups writing in. You could be onto something. I do have a few young 'ens who watch me, but mostly it's 18-34 year olds. I notice most of our viewers are like 95% male, too. Not sure what women like to watch, but not many like to watch me ride around on my bike talking shit, apparently.

They're all aimed at the younger audience. So unless you appeal to them you're less likely to make it big. Being a motovlogger doesn't help as it's a niche area. You have to appeal to younger people who are also into motorcycles.
It can be annoying when you see how much work a motovlogger puts into editing a great video, for it to only get a few thousand views, and some kid records himself playing a video game (minimal editing) and they get millions of views.
I tell you, these young whippersnappers today, no idea how tough we had it in our day *furiously shakes walking stick at the kids*

It could also be that people in their late 20's and 30's just dont either care enough or have the time to send someone fan mail, they have families a lot of the time and responsibilities that younger people aren't as likely to have. I was heavy into music for years and a mentor type friend said to me about lack of visible feedback basically - "Dude when was the last time you went and posted on the wall of your favorite musician to tell him how good he was? People our age dont generally do that, and our fans are people our age. Just be content knowing they downloaded your music." So there could be some of that involved. It also would depend on your demeanor in your videos, if you're super Dad-like and professor-ish you can imagine what kids would think. I just started and I take a light hearted shootin the sh*t with a beer buddy type conversational approach in my videos, we'll see how it works out in the long run.

I actually have gotten a couple of comments from young people saying I remind them of their dad or they wish I was their dad. I tell them to think of me as the crazy Uncle who rides his motorbike through the building at family reunions. If they are younger than about 24 I'm old enough be their dad!
