What the actual F?!?!

Yamaha says on their info page about demo rides coming to the International Motorcycle Show in Nashville, TN that no GoPros are allowed on the ride.

Well, now I am thinking I got to options -
1. Break the rules
or
2. Record my thoughts on my Tascam during the ride and then spoof the heck out of them and their little rule when I do the review videos

Yamaha don't like YouTubers or "influencers"
Nothing like lack of word of mouth to sell your products:oops:

I have a few spoof ideas. One would be to act like this is a new brand to the market. Another is the do some hand drawn still shots to go along with the audio. My drawing ability can be vary from fat crayon to "eh, I guess that looks like a cat";)

That's absurd. I can see them not wanting riders to mount cameras to their bikes in case the mount does any damage, but a helmet cam, really? Ugh.

I wonder what they're afraid of?

You could do something similar, as Top Gear trio did with the Bentley situation, in their Albanian adventure :p
I have just the substitutes for the Yamahas if I go that route. I could reenact key points from the audio recorded at the demo.

Did they specifically say GoPros or just action cams, cause that sounds like an exploitable loophole to me.

No cameras of any kind from what I am seeing

I need a fellow motovlogger to ride 2 up so they can serve as sketch artist :p

Your buddy could ride or drive within Sena range. Record you're ride on any camera as well as audio from the Sena.

Just shot from another angle.

Yeah that;s a crappy attitude from Yamahahahaha, and you can bet that if you film it and upload it anyway you'll get a strike and take-down order.

So I'd say it deserves oiption 2 - the spoof (or as we Aussies would say 'Take the piss out of them:") approach.

They haven't banned audio recorders so yeah comment as you ride, also record exhaust sound, record comments from others, record anything they say ahead of or after the ride (group announcement), general hubbub (to create the atmosphere)... etc.

Then make up visuals later. For that you can use a combination of images from Yamaha website/s, memes, pictures of a potato (if you need to illustrate that bike is ugly perhaps) .
Make sure that you make it clear to viewers that cameras were banned by Yamaha but you've found a way around it ! :)

This might actually inspire your creativity and it could end up better than a normal new bike review/ride impression. Something different !

Generally, when I demo bikes it is because I want that bike rather than because I want to make a YT vid, it is nice to be able to do so though.
I def think a spoof vid could be funny, but to prove a point to Yamaha, it'd kinda be even more funny if it praised the bike, but only showed a hobbyhorse painted blue with you riding that in similar situations.

One thing I am grateful for in the UK is that we generally get to have proper demos on bikes with no follow my leader on boring roads, we get an hour or 2 and go play. It is so hard to see if you like a bike when all you get is to ride around the block like a bunch of ducklings following mother goose!

I may have to move and apply for motorcycle asylum :D

Here it comes down to the individual dealers.
I haven't attended any official events since I got a camera so I don't know what usual practice is - but as I haven't heard people saying similar things I assume it's fine.

Test rides generally speaking very much come down to the dealer.

eg Springwood Suzuki. "Sign this $2K damage excess, here's the keys, come back eventually, have fun"

eg Team Moto Virginia. "I'll ride in front of you wearing a safety vest. You follow me and don't deviate as I'll choose the route Yeah a test ride of a motorbike at low speed (50-60kph max) in suburban back streets..."

Around here, the dealers that sell metric bikes won't allow test rides at all. You buy the bike on paper, take a test ride, and if you don't like it, they rip up the paperwork when you get back. At least, that's how it was explained to me... the only metric bike I bought at a dealer was my Vaquero, and I sort of cajoled the owner into letting me ride it without the paperwork, and they wanted to sell it so they let me.

Harley dealers are supposedly insured by The Motor Company, so they let test rides of all their bikes to licensed riders, and it's up to the dealer as to whether or not a salesperson goes with you. I did a lead-follow demo day event at a Harley dealer, and the 2 test rides [my Harley and a LiveWire] were both lead-follow by spirited riders... so they gave me a good sense of what the bikes were like at lots of speeds :D

I wonder if a non-GoPro or a 360 camera is considered a video camera since they don’t technically shoot in video, but in a digital format? Also, I can’t see Yamaha telling anyone what they can do on a ride. They can bar anyone from attaching a camera to their bike, but if a person has a camera on by a chest or shoulder mount how can Yamaha tell anyone what they can and can not wear on their person?
