Creator Studio private messaging

Just had an email from YT saying that my creator studio private messaging is about yo be disabled due to inactivity, and old messages will soon be deleted.

Is CS messaging different from any other messaging, and what’s YouTube playing at?!

I think it is the same as other messaging, folk will only be able to comment on videos

Having reread the email, they’re pulling the plug on it completely I think, I read it as my inactivity.

I think PMs were impossible or painful on mobile app at one point, so nobody bothered maybe?

I never use the message part of YouTube unless someone has told me they sent me a message in a video comment. Never really needed it. If folks want to dm me they can get me on Twitter or my Facebook page.

Wad another example of YouTube's fine ideas. As I recall it was a bit of a pain to find hence why no one used it

More digging, normal channel PMs are there from the About tab.

I have used the messaging function, for asking permission from other creators, to use their content. Like some improvised music etc. So I guess I need to start backing up the messages somehow.

I suspect that they are killing it off because underused but also because they want to make the chat functions more general. As I briefly had access to a new button on the regular youtube pages that was a speech-bubble. When I clicked it I got a list of recent messages including a message from youtube telling about the new chat feature. It behaves exactly like Facebook's chat in how it creates a smaller window at the bottom-right corner of the page with the chat in it. Which can be collapsed. A few hours later that feature was gone again. I have a screenshot but I need to dig it back u later if anyone wants to see it.

Private messaging in YT was never a good feature.. Just about everyone now has some sort of social media platform people can still PM through those platforms I guess.

update, it's back but only present while watching a video, not on the main page. Seems to be like that for most people.
