Charging Issue?

Hello folks,

Have had some problems with my CBR600F3 charging system lately. Last Friday, the bike battery died on my while riding with lights on. Went and got a new battery and everything was great. Bought a new reg rec as my one didn't have any calling fins on it, just being a plain plastic unit. As of putting new battery on, it was reading 13v on idle, increasing to 13.5v while revving. Put the new regulator on today, and it was reading 14.2v on idle, dropping to around 13.5v when revving. Strange, I thought. Put the old regulator back on and it was now reading 12.9v on idle, going up to 17v when revving. Not good! Tried a reg rec off my CB500 which also read 14.2v Idle and 13.5v revving. The battery had 13v before changing reg rec over. Have just rode a few miles to work and it's reading 13.1v

While these numbers seem OK to me, I'm confused as to why the voltage drops when it's being revved. Surely it should go up?

The reg rec output read as 12.9v on idle, dropping it 12.5v while revving. As I've tried two regulators, I wouldn't imagine the regulator is faulty. Is the battery possible duff even though it's only been on for a few days? Or does the voltage drop at revving appear normal? Doing a 800 mile round trip on Saturday so want it to be working properly. Cheers.

Depends on the model.that typically means the regulator is doing its job. The higher rpm the more your stator is cranking out. Your regulator shuts it down so you don't cook the battery. However it should only be small drop if it does at all, no more 0.5 -0.7.At least that's how it was explained to me anyway :)

I will say thought that it is worth it to buy a better, high end, regulator for performance reasons.
