Changes to YouTubes Terms of Service as of 11-18-20

My 17 year old son showed me a trick that does not involve adblocker.

When the video opens quickly scroll forward just past each ad mark in succession then scroll back to the beginning and no ads should play as breaks in the video.

It's funny I have tried this and on some videos it works and some it doesn't.

I know it not a popular opinion - but I hate adds and the obsesion to monitizen channels , I think YT was a better place when people did it for the love of doing it and not as a job . I have an add blocker and I suport channels by purchasing merch and giving patreon . I move my patreon cash around every now and then to support new channels .

True, but they (YouTube) need to pay the bills somehow. : )

I will say that since my Bagger Showdown video was posted, my views are up many hundreds of percents. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but I've seen at least a doubling of views, along with almost 10 new subs in the last week or 2.

I'm not gonna change who I am - that's against the point of my channel anyway. If it never pans out, oh well.

I do get annoyed when a video is invaded with ads, have mostly turned off mid-roll ads on my channel, although some of the bike reviews and longer vids have them still.

Same here, and often only just 1 midroll.

Thanks for starting this thread MotoMengy! I did a quick reply on this a couple months ago but finally had this happen to me. In fact, I am having this happen to me right now on my Jarvish helmet unboxing video.

I have a baby YouTube channel and on a couple of my slightly more popular videos (Jarvish and Sena related) I am seeing ads run!!! I think that's insane!! People might skip my videos all together now that they see ads on it. This is a greedy move by YouTube. At least let us monitize early if you want to runs ads all over the place.

Your channel quality is Top Notch Hippo, you should run ads on all your videos, I let the ad play though to make sure you get your cut.

Yes, sadly. But I would not be against paying a reasable monthly fee to have more control over my YouTube account though, if that were an option.

I run ads on all my vids, but I hate the midrolls that YT puts in automatically (if you don't change the settings), so I only have manually placed mid roll adverts on a select few videos.
People can pay YouTube to remove adverts, so your audience can do that if they object to them, but it is far from a reasonable cost, I could get Netflix and my Amazon Prime membership for around the same as YT Premium.

It used to be that you can opt to not monetize so that no ads will be played. This move however means that even if you don't monetize and/or not opt to allow ads to run when people watch your stuff, YT will still be able to run ads (if they wanted to) when people watch your stuff. If you are not monetized (either you opt not to, or, not eligible), then ad revenue goes solely to YT and zero for you even though you could be getting a few cents, so why not? If you opt to monetize, then YT shares some with you.

Bottom line is, just opt in for monetization, if you are eligible. If you don't, then I'd say that's pretty "un-smart" of you, whatever your reasons may be. You don't get any sainthood points for not doing so. If people don't want to see ads, there's ad blocker and etc stuff people can do to go around it, so let them do that.

Sadly...you are so right. All videos should be monetized if you have the ability to do so, since YT will probably do it for you, while cutting you out of the ad revenue. You are right on point.

I have just bitten the bullet and subscribed to YouTube Premium, no ads, can download vids to watch later and get YT Music too which seamlessly streams, it is also cheaper than it was last time I looked too, so is now only £1 more than I was paying for Netflix a month
