Chain Adjusting

I need help! I adjusted my chain as per the owner's manual, I made sure the chain had the perfect amount of slack and I triple checked all my work. After riding maybe 300 miles its as if I never touched the chain in the first place.. This is the second time I've adjusted the chain in less than 1,500 miles, and I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice if they have been in my position before.. One thing I should note, the indicator on the swingarm says I should replace the chain very soon, so perhaps that's my problem?

Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated. Thanks everyone!

sounds like the original chain or that you are over tightening it. after you tighten it have someone sit on the bike and make sure there is still a little play. On my VFR with the new chain and sprocket combo I ended up destroying it because I over tightened it then rode 3000 miles to Atlanta and back and destroyed the aluminum sprocket and stretched the chain. (also didn't help that it was a cheap chain and a 520 conversion)

I'm not sure, I'm not the first owner of the bike. I got it at around 15k miles and right now it's at 21k miles

Probably the original chain. I'd just get a new one. And while you're replacing that, it's best to replace both sprockets as well.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Unfortunately I already ordered a new sprocket and chain kit.. I'm pretty sure its all OEM and I'm fine without changing the gearing of it.. Maybe once I get another bike I'll mess around with the gearing.. The chain I got is a green chain to match my color scheme on the bike! After the chain and sprockets are changed I'll be sure to post pictures!

New chain and sprockets. Don't mess with the gearing unless you know what you want from it. +1/-1. Use a sprocket calculator and see the gains/loss. Enjoy that tight virgin chain feel.
