i've been hearing some kinda chain rattle the last few rides, but i only hear it in low revs, like 2k-4k.. could that be the timing chain tensioner? or could it be something else? it doesn't seem to get any worse yet so i'm kinda holding back to dig in to find out what it exactly is, it doesn't really annoy me but i just wanna know if it could be bad for the engine... i don't wanna be cruel to my baby y'know ;-)
imma try to get some footage with good audio later tonight, i'll edit this post when i got that.
hopefully it ain't to bad for my baby...

Oh dear oh dear, the infamous CBR600 'death-rattle' that occurs at between 2k-4k revs.

Best to drive it to a field far far away and set it on fire.

My Tutor was telling me about this, it's a problem they have and that he had on his, it's all to do with the position of the Cam chain. It's at about a 30° angle (from horizontal) and positionned in such a way that it's not corretly lubed in the engine. It'll need replacing, he ended up putting 3 in his whilst he had it. As he said, it's a brilliant bike, but it only has that small problem.

You can do it yourself but I shall quote what he said "you have to have the hands of a tiny gynocologist to replace it without having to take the tank off."

Best of luck with it mate, and keep us posted. If you want anymore info, just ask on here or PM me and I'll go talk to my tutor.

thx for the explanation, you do mean the tensioner of the cam chain right? like the little thing that's just behind the bar of the frame between the side fairing & the tank? i've been browsing some CBR forums & they all seem to point in that direction... i can take of the tank no problem, but it looks like i'll also need to take of the airbox to get to it... & even then it seems like my hands are still too big... i'll keep updating this post as i get along on it. got some footage whilst i was out, i'll upload that bit as soon as i got the time

Actually, if you have Skype, add me on there and I'll ask my tutor tomorrow exactly what he did. I'm sure he'll be able to shed some light on it, but I'd say that that video should be fairly solid.

nope don't have skype, but i have seen that video & i think that i can pull it off, once i need to store the bike for winter i'll get it done as i got time then to sort things out. i'll film everything i do on it so when i get it fixed i'll hopefully have some material to make a vid about it, explaining the problem & the solution. should be helpfull for other honda riders i suppose..
